Contagem de Tempo

@live2learn Thanks for sharing the fact that the CdT can be obtained by queuing at a Loja. I think anyone who is contemplating applying for citizenship should fly to Portugal and do this themselves the very month they become eligible. I certainly will. I don’t trust a law firm to take the initiative and do this the right way.

We have anecdotes of folks here who have held up submitting their citizenship application for months due to the law firm stalling on this.

Is mentioned at the very top of this thread (which has wandered off its purpose of just reporting CdT dates - there’s another discussion for general CdT what/when/why):

Thanks, good to know I am not alone in this. My lawyer is exactly the same.
I cannot queue myself as I am not in Portugal, so I think the only option left is for me to submit my Citizenship application without the CdT. I can see from previous posts that it is just a nice to have and that AIMA will anyway be requested to provide it once IRN requests it.
Thank-you also for confirming the date your CdT states which coincides with online submission date.

Met my lawyer today and was told that the standard process for the firm is to submit the citizenship application once the 5 years from analysis payment is reached, at the same time request CdT. The request for CdT will take quite some months from request of AIMA appointment to actually receive the hard copy by mail.
I presume it is a backup plan/verification method by the firm.
I were also told that the firm has citizenship applications (by residency) pending approval for slightly more than 2 year as of today.

Am I reading this page correctly that this location is the only location in Lisbon that provides a CdT? thanks

Lisbon I - São Sebastião da Pedreira

Yes, you are right.
However sometimes it’s worth to travel to a smaller loja…

@live2learn can you help me understand your timeline. Did you apply for CdT before your 5 years residence or after? Did you have to delay your citizenship application due to waiting for CdT?

My lawyer said you must have 5 years residence before applying for CdT otherwise it will be “incomplete” and can’t be used for citizenship application since it will show less than 5 years. But then you would have to wait the 10 weeks after 5 years and apply at 5 years + 10 weeks. But given the law may be changing soon I want to apply ASAP so exactly at 5 years if possible.

Before 5 years. I did not complete 5 years at the time of requesting CdT. You can request CdT anytime. Your lawyer once again proved that he did not know anything about CdT…DIY is surely better than paying someone without knowledge and expecting that idiot giving you a good advice!

Okay but I don’t live in PT, how do I get CdT without a lawyer? Can I request it by mail?

Supposedly you can email them. I tried that but have never received a response

Maybe you have to keep sending the same email every week until someone responds?
