Are there any articles or professional legal recommendations about submitting early? And what about those that want to do this but have not yet completed the language certification?

Good post here, which really belongs in this thread instead…

Had a message from my lawyer a few days ago. She didn’t go into legal details but advised going ahead with an early citizenship application (i.e. before the 5 year mark), so that’s what we’re going to do. Fingers crossed!

Hope it works out for you! Curious how early you’re talking? This July will be 5 years from my application acceptance and would be able to apply with the current rules.

Thank you! The 5 year mark for our family is October and November 2026. Good luck with your applications. Are you submitting early or holding out til July?

I am preparing to apply early via my lawyer but the Portuguese Embassy in my country does not have any appointments for legalisation of Police Clearance Certificates. The country is also not a signatiory to the Hague Convention. How do I proceed with only legalisation from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs? Can the Embassy step be replaced with some legalisaton in Portugal itself?

I suggest you search for some agencies who may have their own ‘appointments’ with the consulate for legalisation.

yes, checking every where. Still hopeful.

Would you mind sharing what firm or lawyer you are working with on this? My firm is dragging its feet a bit on their reply. Thank you!

For citizenship applications (IRN), how long is a birth certificate considered valid? Thank you

I think its the same 1 year validity.

Birth certificate (the validity is 12 months), duly apostilled.

Advice needed :folded_hands:

Hi, I’m posting for the first time although have been following some of the forums. My circumstances are as follows:

Application submitted: Dec 2021 - Real Estate
(Spouse and 3 kids applications submitted a few days later)

Biometrics for self: April 2023. 1st card issued in Dec 2024, expiry in Dec 2026)
Biometrics for Spouse and 2 kids: July 2023. 1st cards issued in Dec 2024, expiry in 2026)
Biometrics for eldest daughter: April 2025, still waiting for 1st card)

My lawyer is recommending submitting early applications for all of us before the revised Nationality Law takes effect. My kids current ages are 23, 16 and 14. I have asked multiple times if all 3 kids can apply and have been told the under 18s can apply under Art 2(?)

Spouse, 16-yr old and I finishing language course on Feb 4 (certificates can take 1 to 2 months). 23-yr old has language certificate already and we are hoping her 1st card will arrive soon.

Any advice/ input on whether to go ahead with early applications will be greatly appreciated :folded_hands:

We spoke with our attorney earlier today and have decided we will apply early. In our case, our GV application was in October 2022, so we’re still almost two years before the five-year mark. We have our cards in hand.

Our attorney said the early application is at best a long shot, very unlikely to work, but we don’t have much to lose beyond the possible incremental legal fees above the cost of applying later. And we obviously have a lot to gain. I’ll report back once we’ve taken the next step and have actually filed the paperwork.

(None of us has the language certificate just yet but we were told it’s critical to get it as soon as possible.)

In case you haven’t seen this in the other thread (this forum is getting a bit messy, many overlapping topic threads)…

Hi all, my lawyers submitted an early citizenship application for me and my spouse. This was done online. We will complete our 5 years in October 2026 (based on the application date) and will also complete our PLA course by mid-April. Now we wait for a reference number, which I understand, may take up to few months. Now time to patiently wait and pray. Fingers crossed
