HOW-TO: GV Automatic Online Renewal Procedure (Jan 2023→)

Hi, may I ask?

Regarding the decree extending validity of expired residency cards until June 2025, note that the decree, like previous ones, only extends validity if one can prove that a renewal application is currently filed and awaiting consideration.

The official notification says,

8 — Os documentos e vistos relativos à permanência em território nacional, cuja validade expire a partir da data de entrada em vigor do presente decreto-lei ou nos 15 dias imediatamente anteriores, são aceites, nos mesmos termos, até 30 de junho de 2025.

but do we still need to take an action like “gettting or tried to get an appointment”?

Hi Ted, may I ask?
You could renew yours on the SEF portal “Renovação Automática”, and your family’s account still remains "O título de residência que possui não permite a utilização da funcionalidade “renovação automática”, correct?

Yes, AFIP has something on the order of 45,000 members, and of those something at best in the low hundreds might be GV. Even when you mention GV, the moderators have to deal with a score of posts saying “what is GV?”

Yes correct. My lawyer confirmed it’s the same for the other clients…

So it’s unclear when the family members can renew – most likely and hopefully when my application is “Completed” or sooner…

Hi Anonymous69, may I ask?
You are going to raise a lawsuit by paying fee to the lawyer, even though the official notice says the visa is valid until 2025 June, right? Why do you have to take such action??
There are many holders who are not authorized for auto renewal but just don’t do anything (I am one of them). I have no idea what I should do…
Please share your thought.

@kay.singapore I was able to do the automatic renewal online so not planning any lawsuit for that. If I file a lawsuit it will be for our kids’ family reunification which is still not pre-approved.

Today my lawyer confirmed that, first, only the primary GV applicants are eligible for online renewals, and no family members are eligible. She also said that some of her clients are, like me, primary applicants yet getting the message that we are ineligible for online renewal. She has no idea why, and claims that she and her colleagues are attempting to get through to AIMA to unblock our accounts. So, it’s all still a big clusterf*%# for me and my wife.

Thanks for sharing the experience.
So, someone said AIMA sent an email of invitation for a face-to-face appointment, then they visited the office for biometrics/document submission/payment.
Your case was being done everything online (not needed to visit for bio/docs/paymnet), corrrect?

So my first card expires in a couple of days. I was told by my lawyers that the system is only doing renewals for cards expired in jan / feb and even with that there are errors. This seems a little contrary to what is being discussed on this forum.

I think most of us are referring to automatic renewals (online).

Sorry but does anyone know if this reduced DUC fee because of the conversion from GV to D2 ( real estate investments ) is just for renewals or also for the initial application fee?

Just for renewals, the initial permit will be an ordinary ARI permit.

Anyone, please advise. The definition of “Automatic (online) Renewal” is;

You just confirm your current address and click “Next”, then get a link for payment, that’s all?
(So, in case of Automatic Renewal, you don’t need to upload/submit any documents, etc?)

Sorry, basic question but I got confused after hearing about several cases…

After receiving TkRunning email this morning and catching up on the thread , I went to SEF.pt website to renew my visa. 1st renewal - visa expires in 3 days.
I put in my email, Visa #, password.
SEF sent me an email to confirm data and establish my account. Afterwards, i logged in to the SEF website and was able to sucessfully renew my visa online. I received a DUC payment email from the SEF. I’m in a R/E fund and the payment amount is $177 Eu. I’ll wait 2 or 3 days before submitting payment. We’ll see what happens…

I was just quoted by my lawyer the following fees for the renewal of the GV(capital transfer option)

Immigration Office’s analysis fees: € 605.10
Immigration Office’s approval fees: € 3,022.60

Is it just 177 EUR? not this amount?

If by capital transfer you mean the option to transfer €1.5M (or €1M previously), then that should be converted to D2 and hence have the lower renewal fee.

I’ve seen a couple reports now that people investing in funds have also been asked to pay the lower fee. It doesn’t quite track with the Mais Habitação law, but you’re at least not the only one seeing this.

It would be great if AIMA for some reason decided to convert everyone to D2 and hence charge lower fees going forward. If it’s a mistake I still doubt that they will request extra payment from those who already paid and got issued their new resident card, so I would definitely pay and hope for the best as soon as the required 48 hours have elapsed…

When it comes to RE funds vs non-RE funds, I don’t think AIMA has the necessary information to judge whether your fund investment should be classified as one or the other, so technically speaking I think they need to apply the same renewal rules to all fund investors (RE or not). At least in case of the automatic renewals. It could look different in a year or two.

Is it only 177 EUR? or 177 EUR + 3K?

€177 covers both analysis and card issuance, so it’s the full cost:

I waited 48 hours but even so I’m worried I messed up. I submitted the renewal on Friday (PT time) and paid on Monday (PT time) so definitely more than 48 hours. But now I see on the DUC PDF:

O DUC encontra-se disponível para pagamento dois dias úteis após a data da sua emissão.

That doesn’t say 48 hours, that says two working days! Am I screwed because I didn’t wait until Tuesday?
