Do you use Pimsleur in Brazilian Portuguese, or is there a European option?

They have a European Portuguese version

Yes, I found it, just no special discount ;(

Almost impossible to get an A2 slot in London - so I booked a B1 exam instead. It worked - I passed with a “Suficiente” even though I had only studied to A2 level really.

Smart. And congratulations! I’m not in a city that seems to have that problem but good to know it’s an option.

Could anyone recommend a certificate course for a family of four? I.e. I’ve got a wife and two boys (6 & 9), and am considering options. I’d like to be aware of both online and in-person options. Ideally the four of us would participate together in instruction.

For what it’s worth, I’ve got a Cervantes Institute and Portuguese Embassy near my house in the US. I’d like to evaluate in-person options in Lisbon as well.

Cervantes Institute only provides Spanish tuition. If there are no in-person Portuguese courses where you live, you can learn with a mix of online tuition. PracticePortuguese.com is good for grammar and listening exercises (and have structured modules to get you to A2 test level). Also find a native Portuguese speaker on Italki or Preply for speaking practice and grammar oversight. Supplement with streaming Portuguese TV shows on RTP.pt or watching shows on Netflix with Portuguese subtitles/dubbing (both have kids content so it’s something you can do as a family). Some people prefer in-person classes, and they do have benefits, but I’ve used this online method over the past few years and have learned enough at my own pace to manage day to day in Lisbon.

I am not aware of any in person certificate options outside of Portugal. Only option I am aware of is online or in person in PT which is covered in these threads.

Oops, meant to write Camões institute. Thanks for the suggestions.

No problem. I actually did some Spanish classes years ago at a Cervantes Institute and they were great too

Hi all,

So how many online PLA course options are there now that we can make use of which will count if I am on GV program?

Thanks in advance!

Look here and yes.

I passed A1 from one IEFP, is it possible to do A2 from another, will it work for the nationality to have 2 certificates from different IEFP institutes?

Minimum A2 is required. The rest will not be considered. Extra does not contribute any more benefit.

Hi

Just wondering if you were able to find confirmation that the Camoes course is acceptable for citizenship ir permanent residence? My concern is that their and even those offered by universities do not meet the 150 total requirement.

Also could you share with me the link for application for Camoes courses? I spent much time looking for it in their website without any success. I want to do the basic A1 course.

Thank you and regards,

Taufiq

It is not. It can only help prepare you for a CIPLE exam. Only the PLA courses are sufficient for citizenship without a CIPLE exam.

Also Camoes courses are badly structured. A complete waste of time. I wouldn’t recommend it. Better to go with PLA courses with 150 hours.

Partially disagree. My teacher of the Camões course is very nice. I gained confidence of speaking.

Thanks. Any idea how I can contact PLA regarding online learning directly without Edpropt’s help?

Hi all, has anyone had experience with LUSA school for Portuguese Language? We used this school in Lisbon for my daughter’s CIPLE prep, everyone was very nice and good faculty. My daughter passed the A2 exam this summer so we are pleased with her educational prep. They now offer an online certificate. I am trying to determine if this is accepted in addition to the “PLA” certificate that is offered through SIGO.

Here is an excerpt from the admin person’s email: "Lusa School is an accredited Professional Training Center, so we can issue a SIGO certificate at the end of your classes stating that you have completed the course with a Professional Training Center - as required as a document that proves that you have sufficient knowledge of the Portuguese language in the nationality application.

We had several students in the past using our certificates for the Portuguese nationality application (group courses for 80h to complete A1 and A2, never 150h) and we never had issues before."

Does anyone have any knowledge or experience with the LUSA certificate?
