There a some great threads here. I wanted to place this one as a stub for useful reference, stats, or context information about the economy, housing, etc.
Returning from Portugal recently on TAP after several weeks with family logging some of our two weeks, I was scrolling the inflight video options. Amongst the many choices that typically feature sunny (weather and outlook) views of the various regions, I found a documentary: “Portugal, a home for everyone”
I found this 55 minute documentary, released in 2023, to be an insightful view into the housing and affordability challenges facing the Portuguese and the various debates and policy responses that Portugal is wrestling with.
I felt that watching offered me a short opportunity to take a walk in the shoes of those whose country my family is attempting to join, and view the affordability situation through their end of the telescope - awareness of the frustration (despair?) that many Portuguese feel in experiencing affordability and opportunity slip from their grasp. Perhaps provided insight into the rise of the right and the general populist drift and the rug pull we have experienced.
