All cards were issued in the fourth quarter of 2024 and were valid for 2 years. The cards will expire in the last quarter of 2026.
We did 15 days in the first year - this satisfies the 7 day requirement in Year 1.
Yes, there is a 14-day requirement in Years 2&3 combined. However, at the time of applying for renewal towards the end of Year-2 (i.e. in a month or so from now), the 14-day requirement in years 2&3 need not be met yet because Year 3 has not even started. So I can apply for renewal this year and do another visit next year.
Hi, I just want to make sure I understand: I am part of the recent waves with biometrics this February (after a three year wait!) I was told to expect my card June or July 2026. Assuming this happens and it is a two year card, am I correct that technically I should spend 7 days in Portugal before July 2027, and a total of 14 before 2028? It does NOT go by calendar year. So I do not need to spend 7 days before December 31, 2026, correct?
You can spend 14 days there immediately upon receiving your cards, 14 days in the month before it expires, or anything in between (e.g. sprinkling days at random intervals over the two year period). As long as it is 14 days between issuance and renewal, it’s all good.
Only note, begining day and ending day if a trip don’t count as days. If you arrive Sunday and leave Saturday, you only have five days.
