Hi. We are retired US citizens moving to Portugal hopefully late summer. We have our NIF already, and I understand that this basically the key to many different transactions. We will eventually get Portuguese drivers licenses and we are wondering if this requires us to surrender our US drivers licenses or can we retain them? Any help appreciated.
Portugal offers a DL exchange with the US, involving a medical exam, multiple documents (driving records, apostilles, notarizations). The US DL is surrendered to get the Portugal DL. (Like when you move from one state to another.)
