Just got an email from my Lawyer speaking about golden visa carveout being added to the new legislation coming? Has anyone heard similar I brushed it off as layer optimism but Just wondering if others may have something else to add
Everyone that makes money off the GV is trying to hold out hope or find a new marketing angle. Everyone’s job is on the line. If this goes through as is the GV is dead. Possibly when it dies and the wait time shortens to something reasonable some people will come back in just for the visa.
One thing I have learned so far in the GV journey (2+ years in without pre-approval) is- DO NOT TRUST YOU “LAWYER”.
They aren’t like a LAWYER in the sense that you are used to. They are more of a SALES/INVESTMENT AGENT. They have direct financial incentive to keep you or drag you into this mess.
I am also a Henley client. They are very scummy for being such a large firm. They do provide regular updates but I think it was their sales which definitely over promised. It isn’t their fault that the AIMA is a shit show but, they should’ve been honest about the processing times. They were not. They outright lied.
Even now, a lot of firms are publish blog posts like - GV Madness about to be fixed or New GV Process about to fix everything… It’s all bullshit.
I think it’s fair to say Henley is not a conventional law firm. It’s a migration consultancy that is both an advisor and promoter for golden visas. If you want alternative legal advice, I’d look elsewhere to firms that aren’t pushing golden visas as their core business model.
I agree I do not trust very much with this whole process but I do think this would be what not only what everyone here would hope for but make the most logical sense for a country with a investment program into their country. My real purpose of this thread was to see if others across different representatives start to hear similar optimism.
While I find this unlikely, however, if such a “carveout” does indeed get enacted, will it apply to those whose visas very converted to the special D2 upon renewal ? Might be screwed there.
I applied for GV this month just before all this drama was announced. My attorney at PrimeLegal seems to be very professional so far during the process, and they didn’t claim any such thing. Something they told me which I wasn’t aware of was - clock for PR starts from the date we get residence card, not the application date (like citizenship based on current law).
Hi there. As far as my lawyer said the main document for PR is “Contagem do tempo” which counts time from the date of application for holders of GV. But there are still a lot of contradictory information about this issue.
My lawyer is not optimistic as well . Here is the email I got ,
Further to the previous communication, the parliamentary discussion and subsequent voting of the changes to the citizenship law, initially schedule for July, has been postponed.
The commission for rights, freedoms, and guarantees has met last week to discuss the path forward regarding the changes proposed to the citizenship law. However, no voting or decision on the proposed changes has taken place and an agreement was reached to open a period for hearings of interested and relevant parties, until the third week of September 2025.
After the conclusion of the hearings in September, the matter will proceed to be discussed by the commission, before being sent for its final global voting in Parliament’s general session, and lastly, for the approval of the President.
Based on the above-mentioned timeline, we do not expect any changes to be in force before late-October 2025.
We remain available for any questions you may have.
