Has anyone on here used TEJO Ventures for their investment fund? They were recommended to me by an immigration business and I have a call with them today. I’m in the research phase deciding what fund now and appreciate any input!
I haven’t invested in funds, so defer to other people who have.
But Portugalist did a webinar with them yesterday, if you haven’t already seen it:
He’s at least honest that the GV process is at least 2-3 years until cards (actually more like 4-5 years for some people on this forum!). But he’s still touting “5 years to citizenship” which as we know from this thread and this one could change to 7 or 10 years by the time you’d get there. He should be more up-front about that risk.
As an Oxy fund investor—and based on my and my brother’s experience with a real estate investment (a hotel room via Numa in Lisbon)—I strongly advise anyone considering Portugal’s Golden Visa route to opt for open-end funds rather than closed-end ones.
Why? Liquidity is a major issue. Closed-end funds can lock your capital for 8–10 years, whereas open-end funds (like Oxy, the largest by AUM, and Optimize) typically offer liquidity within weeks.
Beyond that, the service culture in Portugal often lacks the professionalism and responsiveness seen in countries like the UK, US, or Canada. Transparency is limited, and frankly, as an investor, you’re often treated more like cattle than a valued client with high potential.
If your primary objective is securing a Portuguese passport or residency, stick with the largest, most reputable open-end funds. Be cautious with closed-end structures tied to real estate, mortgages, or opaque asset classes.
Portugal has promise, but the pace is slow—both legally and bureaucratically. Navigate it wisely.
For the firm as a whole, yes, but not for their open ended fund I think
