I’m looking at investing in the Optimize Golden Opportunities Fund. The main thing I like about it is that it has market-driven valuation (the price of the fund on any given day is set by a public market that could be found online). I’m skeptical of development oriented funds or VC funds where I’m relying on the fund manager to acquire fairly priced assets. Does anyone know of other fund like Optimize Golden Opportunities which is a basic basket of equities and bonds? Would also be particularly interested in a fund that invests in Portuguese government bonds.
The two usual suspects are IMGA Ações Portugal and BPI Portugal. They have similar portfolios, roughly track the PSI20 index, both well-established with long histories. People in these forums have posted extensively about them: search for both names.
BPI Portugal charges much lower fees (1.195% vs about 2.25% pa) and thus tends to outperform, but (at least when I invested in 2021) was unavailable to US investors due to FATCA issues.
Optimize has been a winner for us so far. No tax until you sell. No more fees and the current value is easily discernable. IMO!
Indeed. But I haven’t found better have you?
Have you looked at their performance? I said before no more fees but yes there are embedded mgmt fees. When I spoke with them last year they anticipated that fee to be reduced over time… but who knows!
Well, BPI Portugal is cheaper at zero upfront and 1.195% management fee
