US Gold card impact on Portugal GV?

Wishful thinking here but do you think the US’s entry into the Investment migration market might serve as a bit of a kick to portugal to get their shit together?

The US always had a path through investment. This is not new.

Will it give political cover for promotion of RBI’s? Possibly. Will it relieve pressure from EU? Maybe. But will that make an impact through funding or prioritisation of GV at AIMA? Personally, I doubt it.

As I understand it, the US program was a $500k investment where the money was at risk. I believe it gave you a green card. The proposed program, which would have to be passed by Congress, would be $5 million (likely donation) and would give you citizenship.

The gold visa is an entirely different tax bracket. The number of people worldwide with $5 million or more is 0.05%. That’s about 4 million people, some of whom would already be US citizens. For $500k, it’s about 1% or 80 million people. Keep in mind these are terrible numbers since I don’t think anyone would decide to put all their assets into a GV program.
