bro if 5 years passed and you still donāt have residence permit card, might as well take the L.
Can you share more details
What is the L?
I meant ālossā, i was being cheeky. But if no residence permit in hand in 5 years, itās kind of lost cause in my opinion.
Credit to @live2learn for spotting this⦠perhaps will need to change title of this thread from 5 years to 10 years?
Oh, and note the suggestion not to expect āWait time now counts towards __ year residencyā to ever be put into regulation by this government.
Government considers extending residence time in Portugal to apply for nationality, DN Brazil
ā¦Just over a year ago, Parliament approved a law that now counts these five years from the moment the citizen applies for residency. This change could reduce the time required to apply by up to two years.
However, this law has not been regulated by the current government , which, in private conversations, had already indicated that it did not agree with the five-year period, much less with the reduced count approved by the new law. Some lawyers argue that the law does not need regulation, but at the same time, many immigrants are unable to apply under the new law, because there is no regulation. With todayās statement, it is clear that the government will not regulate the law before leaving office - nor after if it is reelected in May.
Until May there is no changes for sure. They need firstly to form a new govt. But by end of this year, I really do believe that there is going to be a new law. So the current updated citizenshipās law is only an advantage for ones who are eligible to apply between now until end of the year and of course having a CdT in hand is absolutely necessary.
So the realistic timeline of 15 years to citizenship will become 20 years. 5 years for 1st card, 10 years of residency and another 5 years for citizenship processing at an ever increasing workload. And there is no guarantee that 10 years will remain 10 years during those 20 years.
Actually I do hope the international situation becomes worse and then you will feel so lucky to have a residency card of PT. People are prone to compromise you know.
What may be true for you is not true for me. So, please do not speak on my behalf. And Portugal is not doing a charity. I am only asking for a visa against an already exorbitant price paid.
And from my experience, Portugal is no heaven for at least people who want to work and grow.
Unfortunately, itās going to be like that. What I see is that if you want to play fairly and honestly, you will be treated like animals. But if you conduct yourself like a crimal doing illegal activites, you will be likely treated better. In term of citizenship and residency in next 5-10 years, I only see one possible way with reasonable timeline i.e. getting married with the native. Other than that, all other doors will be shut or will be not worth to even start initialising the process.
Yeah,fo course Iām just comforting myself. But I do hope we only focus on what we can push forward rather than feeling anxious about everything even itās out of out control.
But we have a right to feel anxious. This is not what was promised when i made the investment 3 years back. When i have paid for the golden visa then why do i still have to apply for a separate schengen visa every time there is a need to travel to portugal. Nobody told me this wait would surpass my lifetime and Portugal government wont keep itās side of the deal.
I feel much the same. I cross my fingers that my investment is at least making money. It may be the only thing to come out of this process.
Yes, the promise was definitely a liar.My lawyer even told me to wait 6-8 months before the pre approval when I submitted it in Feb 2023. I have nothing to do but wait because itās a thing at the level of PT gov.
As per the nationality,it seems vain to feel anxious unless you are eligible to apply in a few months.
But marrying someone to get the nationality is the last option I will take. I canāt explain it in a few words.haha
I donāt want another passport. I just want mobility, legally and efficiently.
How does a new law affect previous submitted applications? I think we will be evaluated at worst case at the time all we applied. Laws can not be applied retroactively.
There is another concern. In case a such a new law, surely they will destroy their golden visa program. They really make good money now and destroying it will cause a big trouble.
They are not bothered because on this platform itself you can feel there are applicants who find the program a fair deal inspite of what has been happenning over last few years. Everybody is in a different situation and has different circumstances, so they may have their reasons to feel so. But authorities dont care in anycase. since last year 20k backlog increased to 50k even when real estate was out and investment threshold doubled because other residency programs both in europe and caribbean have been either closing or losing shine. When 4.5 billion euro comes from new applicants even after treating the existing investors with disgust, why bother improving anything. Consider that for these new 30000 applicants, the duc and final approval fees for first card will come to about 216 million euro. If AIMA was to even hire 50 more staff only to dedicatedly manage the ARI backlog and clear it within say 3 years, at 3000 euro per person ctc, that would come out to be 5.4 millionā¦only 2.5% of the fees that they are collecting for 1st resident card processingā¦but if u include also the investment amount of approx. 4.5 billion, it is only 0.11%.
The golden visa and citizenship applications are completely separate. They can change the citizenship law any time
Problem is GV marketing seldom mentions that caveat. You will always find ā5 years to citizenshipā in big print (like this BS), but that is neither true nor assured.
If the PT government is considering changing the rules, they should also force PT GV promoters to be honest about future prospects.
But i was only highlighting the āBSā, not trying to endorse it.
