Wait time now counts toward 5 year residency?

Congratulations @live2learn on the 1000th post in this thread! :tada:

Indeed, we have been discussing this for 432 days and a thousand posts, yet still donā€™t have a consistent, reliable AIMA policy. Yes we have that verbal statement from their 14-Jan '25 Zoom meeting, but on the front lines itā€™s still being interpreted randomly.

ā€¦but we do get to pay over a thousand euros more than last year for this amazing service. Cool!

Thanks for kind words.

Honestly our discussion do not make or build up a consistency of AIMA. The most sensible solution, in my opinion, is that one gets at least 2 CdTs from 2 different AIMA branches. If 2 CdT have the same content, it is hard to dispute. If we do not believe in the document issued by the government, then in what we are going to believe? Believe in words from lawyers?

In case of having only one CdT, itā€™s still OK. It is a valid document. Keep it safe and take it out when needed. Go apply citizenship from the date stated on the certificate.

Looking for 100% consistency is even more difficult than obtaining the citizenship. Even with the GV resident card, consistency is not respected. One person in this forum got his first card with only 1 year of validity. Very bad luck! First card nowadays should be 2 years.

I find it quite interesting that most people prefer to be keyboard warriors. It seems that no one wants to queue up in front of AIMA in the morning to request for the CdT. So far, only 2 people including me got the CdT. Iā€™ve already requested 2nd CdT and will report once I get it. What are people doing?

Iā€™m headed to Lisbon in July and am in interested in getting a CdT and reporting the results here. Is there anything I should prepare in advance? Any forms? Any other tips? Thanks!

https://aima.gov.pt/pt/lojas-aima

It shows all aima branches with specific hours and numbers of certificate on that day.
Form will be given on spot. You need nothing except strong legs. Coffee candy and 1 bottle of water will help you finish the task!

How often do they held these meetings and when is the next one?

Lame question here - what CDT is useful for? In simple terms. I read several treads and still didnā€™t get it.

Iā€™m not part of the PT legal community so donā€™t know. I only know of a couple sessions that AIMA ran in January - both seemed to be one-offā€™s, not something regular.

Iā€™m still in the queue before your queue, waiting for my GV.

But those of us in the GV queue (of unknown length) would like some certainty on how long the next queue is. So we watch your progress with great interest

Thanks for your encouraging words.
Nowadays, certainty only exists in dream. Things change at rapid rate. I am just trying to play all cards on the table and praying God Allah and Big Buddha at the same time.
As I understand correctly, you have completed biometric. Just stay strong there, your GV card will eventually arrive. If you live in Portugal, send me a PM.

Today, the meeting in Parliament of the group that successfully pleaded for a change in the nationality law to include time waiting for the residency card, argued for the delayed Regulations to be published.
Result: No decision - until the next Government takes office.
So, bad timing for all those waiting for the application of the law to be clear and more consistent.

But good news for those relying on uncertainty :+1:

It has been speculated that a CdT that shows the residency period beginning on the date the application fee was paid could be used to appeal a rejected citizenship application if AIMA uses a different date when IRN requests the information. Because the law has only very recently been changed and the regulations havenā€™t been formally published, this theory has not been put to the test. As the new process trickles down to each AIMA staff member, hopefully there wonā€™t be any discrepancies going forward, but thereā€™s nothing wrong with having some sort of insurance. Itā€™s not a part of the citizenship application though, so it would only be hypothetically useful if youā€™re eligible to apply for citizenship very soon and worried that the application will be rejected by someone unfamiliar with the new law.

Isnā€™t already the law that regulations must be published within 90 days of a law coming into effect?

Exactly! I feel like she didnā€™t even read my email and just sent me a template.

As we are seeing here and elsewhere in the world right now, laws are just words and cannot inherently enforce themselves

Institutions are only as strong as their enforcement

My experience. Your ARI.Portal should read ā€œTransferredā€ if your card is issued. If the portal is showing ā€œAcceptedā€ , it is still in the Pre-Approval stage.

Yes. It is also the law, that ARI Residence Permits are issued in 90 days.

@live2learn , thanks for sharing the link.

Just to confirm, for the Lojas which offer the ā€œRequest of Nationality Certificateā€ service, are you saying they only issue a certain number of certificates during the stated hours? Or is it as many people as can be accommodated during the stated hours? And no advance appointment is required?

Also, which office did you use, Lisbon? And what sort of documentation is needed, just our temporary residency card?

One final clarificationā€¦ the certificate is indeed now issued on the spot? Some earlier comments suggested that it is sent by mail.
