The A2 certificate was not my problem. I got my A2 last year and applied this Dec 2025. But I did not have the legalised police character certificate till date. My lawyers used the 2022 outdated PCC to apply but once my legalised PCC is ready, I will send it to them online so they can replace the outdated one. So I think you can send something as a replacement until the real certificate is out. But May 2026 might be a long time, IRN probably might have checked your application. Assuming Feb 2026, it could have been better.
So … given the presidential veto, could someone kindly explain what comes next
Parliament will come back in January, make a new law address the unconstitutional bits, then it gets passed again depending on if CHEGA think it’s harsh enough still. The party in power may choose to negotiate with a different party which may work in our favour, but it’s a bit of an unknown.
I think there’s a reasonable chance everything falls apart, or the bill otherwise doesn’t get a second attempt, though PSD is signalling they want to try again.
our lawyer suggested that merely being enrolled in the ciple course would be enough for a pre emptive citizenship application…
It’s hard to imagine there won’t be another try. They continued pushing on the Foreigners Law and got most of what they wanted. Can’t imagine they’ll stop.
I’m not especially hopeful. CHEGA won’t give up. The changes needed to pass the bar aren’t really that much, far as I can tell, and don’t help us at all. Why should PSD change horses and roll with PS? I don’t see it.
interesting. what is their full opinion? on the risks of this pre emptive application?
My 5 years are done on Jan 12th 2026…so very soon.
Should I wait until that date to submit the application(through my lawyers), or just submit it if I have all documents ready?
Wait, nothing will happen by then. If you apply early, you might have a problem later.
Since it seems almost impossible that parliament would be able to revise, pass, and bring into effect a new nationality law by January 12th, I do not see any reason why you should submit the application on your own prior to that date and risk it being rejected for premature filing (and possibly preventing you from making a timely filing). However, I would lean heavily on your attorneys to file on the very first day you are eligible to apply and not a day later. Congratulations, it looks like you will slide in under the wire.
id say you are pretty safe, just wait, the politicians wont return until jan, and they still have to negotiate and make a new law and then pass it through. Plus they are going to have a recess for the presidential elections, so i wouldnt expect them to have anything concrete until feb/march at best

I tend to agree that they will certainly try again. Chega will certainly push forward - that is their main electoral platform. What we don’t know yet is whether PSD would be willing to support a bill with so much constitutional controversy around it. They might side more with PS to make the bill more palatable in posturing for the next elections: not too far to the right, but still rigid on immigration. There is too much risk that PSD would lose their “centrist” status, and thus the support of many of their constituants.
I am even more concerned with the presidential elections as that would signal which direction the country is heading. If we get a right-wing president, then yes, we are done!
You should have started preparing your docs in Oct 12th 2025 and by now you should have documents ready and an appointment with IRN on Jan 13th or 14th or 15th…At least that’s how I did…
no risk aa according to them, it wont impact current or future apps
Hi ohbee,is it also applicable to some applicants like me who haven’t received the first card yet to apply for the citizenship?
The documents are ready, but I didnt send the application…What appointment?
Since you mentioned you are submitting via lawyer, it is an online process which does not need any appointment. IRN appointment is only necessary if you are going to submit the application in person.
In your place I would ask my lawyers to be sure to submit on the 5 years + 2 days mark (to avoid edge case confusion about when 5 years were completed)
