I thought it was SOP for in-person renewals to pay by card during the appointment, distinctly remember discussions earlier in the year and worrying about how to pay a large amount using a debit card which was sure to run into limits…
Found the thread. I paid my lawyers in advance and they paid on the spot using their Visa debit card. Fortunately it turned out to be the low D2 fee in my case.
Someone created a database tracking all residency card initial and renewals timelines by AIMA office. Roughly 112 calendar days from payment to receiving the card for renewals.
I’ve been on this NG PT forum for almost 3 years, yet I’ve never seen mention of this “Portugal Resident Card Tracker” (which has ‘Date Paid’ entries as far back as 2023).
It doesn’t say whether these are GV or all the other various types of Residency cards though. I wouldn’t be surprised if the different types have different processing steps/timelines.
I asked my attorney to get NISSs for my two adult (in Uni) children on our ARI and the response the lawyers got from Social Security was a flat out “we do not give out NISS unless you have a job/etc.” We are waiting for renewal dates for them, but my lawyer said it’s not needed. Hope she’s right.
I’ve been through the initial application, automatic renewal, then physical renewal for a family of four and none of us have ever had NISS numbers, and it’s never come up as a requirement. Haven’t got the latest cards yet, but no one raised an issue at the renewal appointment.
Have been trying to get one myself - just in case, for down the track etc. I applied a few weeks ago, got an initial rejection for a technicality and have applied again… it’s gone all quiet for 2 weeks now…
I think this has been posted before, but the following is a good summary of the NISS fiasco with renewals…
The computer system was developed without anticipating legal differences and ended up requiring all adults to present their NISS , even when there is no legal obligation.
IIRC current renewal fees for the investment path is €3090pp. I have seen a few references to some people paying an extra €618 for what was termed “analysis”. I do not believe everyone on the investment path is paying this extra fee. Any idea of who pays it and why?
I had my lawyers attend my renewal appointment last week at AIMA Evora. I’m an GV investor via the funds route. I’m confirming that I paid both the €3090.40 for the renewal and €618.60 for the analysis. I didn’t have to attend in person as my biometrics were less than 10 years old (taken in Jan 2020). I’ve asked the lawyer to send me the payment receipt from the AIMA appointment as well, just to make sure. I’m guessing that we, “Fund investors”, are charged the higher renewal rate.
