Could you clarify one thing: your lawyers suggest that applying more than 3 month in advance of expiry is not possible or might cause some trouble?
My wife’s card expires Feb 1st, was thinking of already sending a renewal request via contactenos…or should I wait till Nov 1st?
Our lawyer said nowadays we should expect a two-three month period to receive the cards after renewal appointment.
You should wait. I don’t know what happens if you try earlier, they might just email back telling you to wait, but I don’t think it’s worth the hassle.
I found this link to the AIMA announcement for the ‘contactenos’ service (in Portuguese), and it specifically calls out the 90 day limit: “Os pedidos só podem ser feitos até 90 dias antes da validade do Cartão/Título de Residência”.
Hey, thanks for the reply!
Let’s see what happens to my request…bcs I did it a bit earlier by accident (like 94 days in advance) - got an email with the code and an email with confirmation of the submission of request. Hopefully will get a date in the upcoming week or two.
thanks. Hope it’s true ![]()
Well by the time anyone reads it, I’m sure you’ll be within the 90 days anyway ![]()
My dependents form didn’t go through.lawyer says problem with the site. This was on the 17th . Does anyone have more recent news. Thanks
On either Facebook or LinkedIn AIMA is posting when the next renewal window is open. Last i saw a few days ago it said Oct 2025.
Via the “portal-renovacoes” site, yes only Oct 2025. But you can apply 90 days out via the “contactenos” form. My expiry is in Nov 2025 and I already have an appointment scheduled in Jan 2026.
I don’t know why they’re only opening up month by month via the portal. 90 days is permissible under regulations.
If helpful, I requested renewal of an ARI for physical real estate a couple months ago. Card had expired in January. Had my appointment this week - my fam has theirs 8 hours away in a couple months (including kids, which is disruptive). I asked if they’d take us all at once, or at least the kids, but they only helped me. So I did mine. They had me redo biometrics (not sure why, email said wasn’t necessary), took all my paperwork, and I paid 181 euros. No idea of when I’ll get card. Would love to be able to sell RE and might when I get our cards. TBD. They said I shouldn’t but…
I thought this was only for regular residency cards, not for GVs. Is it not?
@tkrunning Can you enable the wiki flag on the first post please? Multiple sections need to be updated.
3 months waiting since renewal appointment and biometrics re-done at Portimao for wifey and I. Same thing has been suggested to not sell until getting the citizenship at least.
What are the dcouments y’all asked to bring on the day of the appointment for renewal?
I went for a renewal of ARI - Golden Visa by investment at AIMA last week and they carged me 185 Euros. Is that it or is that just a processing fee?? I heard it was 4000Euros?? Will they be billing me via DUC before sending the new card?
Under which category was your Golden Visa issued: real estate purchase or investment fund?
181 for me last week.
how did you pay it, by card or by invoice? what’s the payment deadline? thanks
I paid on the spot with my ATM card and on pin (multibanco)
Thanks for the reply. For anyone who has been charged a renewal fee of around €3,000–€4,000, were you issued a DUC or asked to pay by card?
