AIMA's new GV process

Why but? I am saying the same - read official AIMA requirements for ARI which indeed demand the foreign tax ID and yes, they demand any non-PT documents to be apostilled/legalised and translated to Portuguese and the translation notarized by a PT lawyer/notary.

This is official and thatā€™s what I did.
I know for a fact some other folks got away with various more relaxed versions of the above, eg non-apostilled tax ID, or online translations etc.
So up to you if you want to crank up your chances by complying up front, or rather hope for a lenient AIMA agent.

Any word on whether AIMA is required recently apostilled birth certificates for main applicant and spouse? I needed to get new ones for my kids, but was surprised that I wasnā€™t asked to get it for either myself or my wife.

Are you sponsoring your parents for GV? If so you need your own birth certificate to show their connection to the main applicant (you).

If not, you donā€™t need your birth certificate until you apply for naturalization.

No, I am not sponsoring my parents (just wife and two minor kids). At first, was surprised that they didnā€™t want birth certificates for the wife and I, but it now makes sense when you think about it as connections. Wife is connected to me through marriage certificate, kids through birth certificates.

Also note that there may be somethings lost-in-translation depending on your investment type.

For proof of investment, if you have a fund, youā€™ll need a bank declaration showing you still have that investment. If you are in real estate, the deed/property registration satisfies that requirement. Something to validate for people who say they need or didnā€™t need an updated bank declaration.

Iā€™ve been asked not only to get a declaration from the bank that holds my investment, Iā€™ve also been asked to get it directly from the funds themselves.

Yes, following the official guidance is correct and no doubt.

I donā€™t want to bite words and chew characters in AIMAā€™s guidance and I donā€™t want to have a stereotype but do you think they are reliable in the past years? Do you think they can publish guidance that fits all?

For me,no. How do you define legalize? Certified? Notarized? or Apostilled? There isnā€™t a standard and AIMA didnā€™t define that or maybe they know itā€™s hard to define so they particularly use an ambiguous description.

This is just my conjecture.I hope someone can give me a fact that disclose my ignorance.

For my biometric appointment (Dec 2023, before the current changes) I was asked for a new bank declaration confirming the funds, but not for anything from the funds. Subsequently my application was approved. I think whoever asked you for declaration from the funds is in error.

All the banks charge the same amount. Strange, that!

Well, thatā€™s of course your rightful choice, but remember the alternative is then to bite and chew through hundreds of contradicting lawyersā€™ ā€˜opinionsā€™ and thousands of posts from unknown strangers on the internet forums (including mine )

Yes, and yes. With the exception of some marginal exotic cases which I am sure exist, the official guidance from SEF/AIMA is pretty good, fairly exhaustive and usable.
And I do not think, I know :sunglasses:

:man_facepalming:
They did define it. And where they did not, they use official terms defined elsewhere, e.g. to answer one of your questions:

Good news is that all of the above including SEF/AIMAā€™s official materials plus any extraneous definitions and various rabbit hole cases have been dissected with a scientific precision by this forum over the past few years
Slightly less good news is that one would need to use search quite heavily as the info is spread over time and multiple threadsā€¦
But I still recommend for anyone embarking on this journey to use AIMAā€™s official website as the starting point.

It will definitely be a loss for AIMA not to hire you as the director of the public affairs department, Tommy.

Im also UAE based and was wondering if thereā€™s a legalization company that youā€™d recommend for this?

Iā€™ve used Wordcraft. Theyā€™ll need an authorization letter from you and your passport to carry out the certification on your behalf.

Hi Everyone, for my case, i have opened the AIAM portal on Jan 2nd, 2025 and saw my status changed to ā€œwaiting for documents submissionā€, and next to it there was a green arrow which I have pressed on to see which documents they are referring to and the portal closed and went back to the initial status ā€œwaiting for analysisā€. unfortunately AIMA email sent earlier to explain the change went to my junkbox and wasnā€™t aware of the change. my lawyer has been sending emails daily to AIMA to open the portal to upload the updated documents (which i already have) but no reply from AIMA. anyone experienced this scenario and why AIMA donā€™t reply or take actions on email. thank you and have a nice day

It is my understanding that AIMA wants updated documents for spouses/dependents of the primary applicant, but hasnā€™t opened that system to allow such submissions (even if main applicant has resubmitted). Does anyone have any information on when the system will open? I ask because I am concerned the updated documents I obtained will go stale (over 90 days) before AIMA opens it up.

99% of the article below has already been discussed in this thread, but I donā€™t remember seeing this 55k GV application backlog estimate before?

Şafak Nervo, Chief Commercial Officer at Optylon Krea, revealed that during a presencial [means ā€˜in personā€™] meeting with AIMA, the government disclosed that the immigration authority is currently facing a backlog of approximately 55,000 Golden Visa applications (including main applicants and family members for both initial and renewal visas).

55.000 sounds for me logical. This includes all family members and renewals. Here is some similar numbers from another source.

There are great points in that article you shared:

  • Card validity extends two years for fund-based investments and three years for property investments.
  • The five-year period for citizenship applications now begins with online submission. ā€œThe confirmation that the five-year period for the citizenship application commences with the online application submission is another reassuring clarification,ā€
  • Documents properly certified during initial submission maintain validity throughout the process.
