AIMA's new GV process

In the same situation. Lawyers have advised me on the 7th Feb 2025 the portal is locked and still unable to submit updated documentation. Additionally I have not received an email from AIMA about the new process. Is anyone else in this situation?

In the same situation. I have all documents ready to submit however i can not as the portal for my application is locked. Lawyers are trying to resolve yet from yesterday no traction.

Andrew - can you please clarify. Are you trying to submit the refreshed documents required by the new AIMA process for initial applications or are you at the biometric scheduling stage? If it is the former, are you saying that you cannot load any refreshed documents into the system? Thanks.

I am advised the portal is locked and my lawyers are unable to upload updated documents. My initial application went in April 2023 since have had no comms from AIMA.

Thanks for the clarification Andrew. Just one more quick question, before it was locked (and after AIMA had asked for renewed documents), were any documents uploaded to the site by you or on your behalf? I ask because others on this board have reported that all renewed documents must be submitted in one session. If yours were submitted piecemeal after the new system went online, that may be the reason you are experiencing this problem.

If not, the next simplest explanation is, like many new systems, it is locked because of technical problems. Of course, we’re all just guessing, but it is an interesting issue. If anyone else has found the system locked, it would be useful to know. Also, if the system becomes unlocked for you Andrew, please let us know. We are all hungry for data. Thanks.

I saw posted that someone clicked on the green arrow at the top of the SEF ARI page thinking it would lead to another webpage but that arrow locks the application and doesn’t allow any further uploads. So, definitely don’t click on the green arrow!

*** Proof of Dependency: Single Status (6-month validity as of date of issue) and Proof of Studies (valid for the current school year)- Duly legalized and translated into Portuguese.**

Does anyone in the U.S. know what specific documentation will satisfy these two requirements. Our attorney says we need an official document from a “civil authority” declaring our daughter’s singleness. As far as I know this is not something that exists in the U.S. We have marriage certificates. I’ve never seen nor heard of an official singleness certificate.

Similarly with the proof of studies. Our attorney is saying we need a notarized/apostilled document from her university stating her status. The university will not cooperate to provide something notarized. What “proof” will be acceptable to AIMA?

I encourage you to use the forum search functionality.

E.g. I have just run a search for:

Go to the registry in your county where marriages are recorded and get them to run a search and they wil give you a document saying that there is no record of this person being married. This is the document you need. They know what this is. I was also mystified but when I asked in my county in california the knew all about this document.

If the university will not notarize or apostile, ask around for a notary in your area who helps with apostiles as well. You can bring that document from the university to them and you can just sign on it or on a cover letter and they can notarize your signature and apostile the whole thing – really its an apostile of their notary cert but the whole package will be apostiled together and looks all nice and good to go.

This is really helpful. Thank you!

Can I just send in a photo of myself and they’ll assume no one would want to marry me?

I’m in the same situation

Sorry to hear that Courtney. How long have you been trying to submit the renewed documents?

Thanks Coffeeman, no we have not been able to submit any documents as yet. I agree it is to be expected, that there will be some technical issues along the way. Considering they plan to launch a new digital portal for the number of applicants already in the backlog. It’s possible they are throttling the number of applicants that have access to upload doc to avoid a total crash. Anyway, lets share any updates and tips and I’m sure it will be sorted soon.

We can’t submit documents until the portal allows us to, and so far it hasn’t done so. We never received the email about the new procedure; it seems like the only people with the opportunity to upload new documents are those who received the email.

Did anybody in your group already have biometrics done?

Courtney, would you mind sharing when you initially applied? It is odd that you didn’t get the email and I wonder if the timing of your application had something to do with it.

so far no appointment given to applicants who updated their profile in 2025
