Change nationality on the initial Aima appointment

Hello everyone!
I am trying to understand what can be done in my case.

Background-
I am an Indian national, currently undergoing my Canadian Citizenship application, which should be completed by April 2025, 2025 and i should be able to apply for the Canadian Passport in May and have it within 10 days.

The issue is, i got a work offer from Portugal, and applied for the visa from Canada and got approved (as an Indian national, dual citizenship not allowed.) at this time i was not thinking how my citizenship change would affect this as i was not aware there was a 2nd leg to this approved work visa (the Aima appointment).

My question is, if i happen to get the Canadian citizenship, should i apply to get the passport and walk in to the Aima appointment with both my passport and request the change of nationality there? i will request my NIF based on Canadian ctznshp, before Aima appointment.

HAs anyone had this similar issue? any comments and guidance is highly appreciated.

Obrigada!

Check with an immigration lawyer, internet isnt a right place to start this. There are many immigration lawyers available in this website. However, your case seems quite an easy one. A friend of ours had a similar situation with a Singaporean passport, she was able to surrender that within 2 years of obtaining the US nationality. I believe your country shall allow the same, unless you travel back to India using that passport (That shall be considered an offense and you might have to pay a fine).

Once you obtain your Canadian citizenship and have your passport in hand, you must apply to relinquish your Indian citizenship and surrender your Indian passport (it will be cancelled and returned to you). The process can take 4-8 weeks to complete.

I would use your Canadian passport and the certificates you get from the High Commission with AIMA, although you may want to get the certificates apostilled for use in Portugal.
