Citizenship approved - now what?

Hello all!
My nationality was approved 2 days ago as I received notification from the system and the process is now concluded.
However, I am not sure what to do now? Am I supposed to receive my birth certificate? Can anyone guide me through the next steps?
Thanks!

Congrats. Just curious when yo applied?

You will receive a Portuguese birth certificate. Bring this BC to IRN or embassy to apply for cartão de cidadão and passport.

Hey applied in december 2022! Thanks!

Oh awesome okay so i just wait for my BC to arrive home i guess? Not sure if need to go back to IRN to pick up? Or does it take too long to receive?

According to my friend who received approval in june 2024 and just got her cartão de cidadão and passport this week, the BC was sent by IRN by email to her lawyer “very shortly” (1-2 weeks?) after approval.

I believe legally a citizen must have the cartão de cidadão, but the passport is optional.

Since cartão de cidadão lasts 10 years, but the passport only has 5 years validity, this could save some renewal time.

For example if you have a US passport, I think it may be possible to just fly to Portugal with the US passport, show them the cartão de cidadão, and they will let you in with no time limits.

But please correct if I’m wrong.

Have you applied for your birth certificate yet? If not, apply online through the website Civil Online and click Entrar sem authenticaco. Enter your data and you pay and should receive it by email.

After that, you can apply for citizen card and passport through your embassy. Or another option would be to travel to Portugal and use the expedited service to get them both I think in maximum 2 days or less.

Ok this is interesting i didnt know i actually had to ask for the birth certificate, not easy to understand the whole process! Let me check the link and see if i can do it. Thanks for the reply
