Does anyone have any experiences with the current situation with non resident opening bank accounts in Hong Kong? Ease of opening, which banks/branches are more friendly etc?
Also, some of you may have heard RMB denominated accounts are available now for non residents to open without HKID, any thoughts here?
Not a bank but you can look into Neat.HK, which is a FinTech not unlike N26 BUT it’s not a bank account, more like a prepaid Mastercard. You will get a Debit Mastercard with them and you can load it up with HKD via Transferwise from your home country. The only ID needed is your passport and selfie. No branches.
May not be what you need, but if you just want to be able to convert and spend HKD, this is an option.
Haven’t heard about your second paragraph (“RMB denominated accounts are available now for non residents to open without HKID”) - can you quote your source? I’m sure you’ve heard recently that AliPay will soon allow non-residents to utilize their AliPay system, linking it with a prepaid Bank of Shanghai credit card (up to RMB 2000) which can be topped up with foreign credit cards.
