Improvement to "ignored" feature

I have permanently ignored a few members of the community. Certain of these posters have been quite prolific with their belligerent posts lately. Ideally I wouldn’t even notice–aside from seeing the other half of the back-and-forth, from the people they’re hectoring, which I can live with. Alas, the count of unread messages includes unread-but-ignored messages. I must reveal those messages and scroll around a bit to clear the pending messages indicator.

@tkrunning How difficult would it be to exclude ignored messages from the unread-messages count?

Not very easy, I think.

This is the most similar request I could find on Discourse Meta (the home of this forum software):

Doesn’t seem like anything got implemented to improve the current behavior, unfortunately. And also not something I’m able to implement on my own either.

Ahh yes, same request, same motivation. Apparently it didn’t make the cut for implementation.

I had a quick glance at the source code. It doesn’t look like a trivial one-liner change to fix this.
