Hey there. Iām Artyom (or Artjom, depends on language).
Iām an Android developer for last 6 years. Itās the first profession thatgot me for so long, Iām really happy about that. Itās hard though, Iām not sure what to do with that part yet.
Iām not a real nomad, actually. I just havenāt āhomeā right now, and I fell in love with travelling⦠so, here I am.
Iām in a āsearching and choosingā mode for 2 years right now. And I work remotely for around 4 years, itās quite convenient (sometimes quite lonely)
Iām living in Serbia for some time, quite lovely country.
My favorite place for travelling is Japan so far. It was my dream until this April. Now itās my dream to go there more often.
The most social things I love are board games (even online theyāre a lot of fun) and popular-science lectures.
Hi Everyone, Al here, I am a 59 year old who has been trying to leave the UK rat race for many years.
My wife and I pretty much have our minds on buying a small place in Alberta Canada, and living there 6 months per year as is currently allowed.
Then thinking of travelling in Europe or indeed elsewhere for 3 months per year and spending the remaining time in the UK.
We intend to finance this by renting our two homes out whilst we arent living in them, and using some savings.
My wife is a VA and i have just started an online coaching business to try and earn some extra revenue.
I am a very keen paraglider and snowboarder whenever i get chance.
I have joined Nomad Gate to learn what questions i need to ask to facilitate mine and my wifes next adventure in this life and to pass on as many gems of wisdom as I can.
Top tip⦠really believe and it will really happen!
Kindest of regards to you all.
Al

I am an advisor to real estate developers in Portugal at Sothebyās International Realty. I help them acquire, design and market each project.
How can I help you?
If you are trying to understand how the market works here, I can briefly explain the trends, each player and their motivations and goals;
If you are looking into investing in a property, I know 99% of the new construction projects available in the market (I also have a team of +200 brokers who can support you if you prefer to buy something ready);
Iām a motion designer/2D animator from the Midwest US. Graduating from college soon and looking to try my hand at a nomadic lifestyle. Iāve backpacked and stayed with families multiple times throughout Europe, and I really loved it. I work remotely most of the time, so Iām hoping that this site can help me figure stuff out and make the switch

Hi I am new here. Thank you for accepting me to this group. I have a question about my situation. Iam an EU citizen. I arrived in Portugal at the 4th week of August 2020 and stayed for less than 183 days. I got a NIF in Dec 2020 because i wanted to buy a house. The house purchase did not push through and i went out of Portugal. I did a declaration to quit the territory. In september 2024 i received a letter from financa that i have yet to do my tax declaration. In my grand surprise . I was not resident so why do i have to pay a tax on added value from my investment money. I gathered all the document proofing that i did not violate any regulations and proofing that i was not resident. Yesterday I received a letter from financa containing the huga amount of money to pay as a added value taxes which amount i did not earn. Anybody has the same experience? Thank you
My wife and I are just beginning our Portugal Golden Visa journey. Weāre working with La Vida, and so far things are going smoothly. Weāre from the U.S., have chosen our funds, and already received our tax IDs. Weāre now just waiting on our bank accounts to be opened so we can fund everything. In the meantime, weāre starting to gather our documents to get them apostilled.
Iāve read some of the more frustrated posts about the GV process, and since weāre still new to all this, itās definitely made me a little nervousālike maybe we made the wrong choice.
That said, weāre going into this with realistic expectations: weāre anticipating the biometrics appointment will take at least 3 years, and weāre not expecting citizenship for 6ā7 years.
Weāre doing this with the hope of retiring in Europe somedayāstill over 10 years awayābut we wanted to get the citizenship part sorted in advance so we can really enjoy that phase of life when the time comes. For now, weāre having fun learning Portuguese and trying to stay optimistic.
Looking forward to connecting with some positive folks hereāhopefully itās not all doom and gloom!
To be very clear - you can stop now and be out only a small amount of money.
I think your timeline is still optimistic, but if you donāt need citizenship for 10 years, perhaps thatās ok. Itās still a good program if you can handle the wait and uncertainty
I think I was just hit with a wave of doom after reading the rant page. I checked a few of the Facebook groups and saw that many people are only now getting their residency cards from 2021. Honestly, thatās fine with me ā the longer it takes, the less we might end up paying in renewal fees.
I think I just got overwhelmed by all the negativity and started questioning what we were getting into. La Vida did tell us it would take 2ā3 years just to get to the biometric stage. I went into this knowing we probably wouldnāt have citizenship for at least 6ā7 years, and if it takes longer, thatās okay. Weāll still be working in the States for at least another 10 years anyway. Iām just trying to have everything lined up for when we eventually retire.
I just hope we donāt lose money on the investment. If it doesnāt lead to citizenship and we end up losing money to government fees, that would be disappointing ā but not the end of the world.
At the worst, Iām hoping we learn some Portuguese, enjoy a few nice vacations in Portugal, and maybe even make some money on the investment.
Of course, Iād much prefer if we end up as Portuguese citizens in the end.
