Moving entire house and car from Canada to Portugal

Does anyone has experience with moving entire 5 bedroom house? let’s say 40 feet container worth of stuff and couple of cars?

I read somewhere that if you own the car for more than 1 year and import it within 6 months of moving to Portugal you do not have to pay any duties or import tax, specially if its an EV.

Based on quick search, it looks like i can book a 40 feet container in Canada and have it reach Lisbon in less than 30 days for around $5000 and minimal paperwork in Portugal.

Any information is extremely helpful since its a big move for the family.

I would encourage you to join the facebook group Americans and Friends in Portugal - there are lots of experiences of both crate and car. (Car is not recommended unless a classic/ sentimental value ). Someone recently posted about sending the car to Spain first and getting to use it a lot faster that way. it is complex.

Car import in Portugal

Hello fellow Portuguese GV applicants! I am moving to Portugal soon and I want to import my car from the Netherlands (where I lived before that). As some of you might have noticed, car prices in Portugal are ones of the highest in EU thanks to ISV import tax and VAT. Ownership is not that expensive though comparing to eastern EU countries such as NL. I had no complaints using Schumacher Cargo Logistics in US. They also ship exotic cars. Worth a look if you are moving entire apartment. Car shipping to EU is tricky and partially based on weight. There is also can be an engine conversion charge. My smaller shipment went thru Rotterdam first.
