Your situation and mine are similar. I think AIMA hasn’t finished processing the principal applicant’s renewal application yet, which is why dependents still can’t renew online. When you receive your answer from AIMA, please share it with everyone.
Hi Maria,
Please try a different browser on non-mobile device and see if the fields are blank.
Hi Maria
I think that there is a possibility to fix your problem.
Have you used the contactenos and selected the option Portal Renovações/Retificar/Inserir NIF? The problem might be the NIF of the main investor has not been embedded into Portal Renovações. Therefore, we might need to request AIMA to insert it into the Portal. After that, thing might be OK…
I agree / this could be an issue.
Live2learn, was payment received for your dependents? If you could be kind enough to share the list of documents the portal requires for dependents, I would be grateful.
Just checked the platform and it is still at payment stage. I will update with screenshot once I move to documents stage. Thanks!
A NIF was not absolutely required in the past, but I recommend it to reduce friction. Also, it does seem that the new renewal process requires NIF.
I logged in using both my phone and computer, and it was the same; sometimes the information displayed fully, and sometimes it didn’t.
Yes, thank you, that’s a very good point, and I also overlooked this case because I had previously created an account for the investor but it was unsuccessful, and I think the investor had already submitted a renewal application directly to AIMA beforehand.I did as you said and I’m waiting. I’ll let everyone know the results.
Dear AT,
I am living outside Portugal and the website does not allow access if you are not logging in from Portugal.
My lawyers are still struggling to register for me and other clients.
Please let me know if you have a NISS. I don’t have a NISS and that maybe the issue.
Also, please let me know which documents you have submitted for showing -Proof of Means of Subsistence.
Thank you
You could use a VPN and set your location to Portugal, that would solve the issue of not being physically present in the country.
I have a NISS, yes.
For Proof of Means I just sent them a bank statement.
For means of subsistence, I think you could add a paragraph similar to the following. You could also add a secondary statement saying that although means of subsistence are not required, you are providing a bank statement showing means of subsistence.
As for NISS, I haven’t dug into the renewal portal fully. Can you simply provide a no-debt certificate from the social security office in lieu of a NISS?
I plan to submit a statement similar to the following:
Comprovo a prova da situação contributiva regularizada mediante apresentação de declaração negativa de dívida emitida, com uma antecedência máxima de 45 dias, pela Segurança Social ou, na sua impossibilidade, declaração de não existência de registo junto desta entidade.
Quite telling that a portal that caters to the needs of a lot of outside Portugal based people to renew their resident visas would only be accessible from within Portugal!!
Here’s a list of what they are asking for my wife’s renewal (dependant). Fund investment.
Last point in the list being Modelo 4, that can be downloaded from AIMAs website and then certified by a lawyer or notary.
Thanks for sharing the screenshot.
What did you submit for the “situação contributiva”?
It’s been 4 business days since payment done, the Portal renovaçoes is still stuck at payment stage…![]()
That would be your no-debt declarations for tax and social security.
Exactly this @live2learn
As for me, four days have passed since I registered the NIF for the investor, and there’s still no result, and the investor still hasn’t been able to create an account. The investor’s card, which was renewed directly at AIMA from October 2025, has still not been received ![]()
I am not certain that this adds any significant value to the conversation, but wanted to set a reference point for our lived experience timing on the renewal process using the new portal.
Context: Original ARI/GV application of October, 2021. ARI cards in hand January 2024. Family of 3.
Oct25: Our ARI cards are scheduled to expire in Jan26. Request filed to obtain in person appointment(s). All legal work/filings made by our very capable colleagues at NSM.
15Dec25: Begin process of collecting updated documentation. Long shelf-life items first.
14Jan26: 3 months after request, we receive appointments for in person ARI renewal in Tavira, on 23Mar26.
29Jan26: AIMA announces “new portal” to be available in mid Feb.
23Feb26: Accounts are created for us.
27Feb26: Update from NSM. “We would like to inform you we have already processed your registration and we are currently awaiting the issuance of the DUC from AIMA in order to proceed with the payment, we expect to receive it by Monday. Once we receive it, we will pay the fees, and then we will have 10 days to submit the required documentation.”
4Mar26: DUCs issued and paid. Nice footnote that AIMA added another 80.90 Euros to the fees.
9Mar26: Finally, the supporting documents are uploaded. NSM update: “We would like to inform you that the three applications have been successfully submitted. Please find attached the 3 corresponding receipts/confirmations from the AIMA portal. Please note that, this receipt has the same legal effect as the residence permit for an initial period of 60 days, which can be automatically renewed for successive periods. For all legal purposes, the receipt remains valid until the final decision on the renewal request. During this period, you should carry both the residence permit being renewed and the renewal receipt as proof.”
10Mar26: There is no forecast as to how long it will take to either review/approve the supporting documents or how long after that to produce cards.
The analogy that comes to mind now is that of a boat navigating a river system and its locks. Except you don’t know how long the river is, how many locks there are, or who runs the locks and when, or what the fee will ultimately be. Good times. Make yourself comfortable in your deck chair and have a beer.
Postscript: If there is any goodness, we chose to do the early filing for Citizenship concurrent with this and it went in at the end of February, so we were able to get double usage out of some of our required documents and the apostille process.
Thanks for sharing. I also paid DUC on 4th March 2026 and mine is still stuck at waiting for payment stage…
I would be grateful if you can update the situation when completing your biometric appointment at Tavira.
same here! I think Aima stops working until they find a new contractor to make a new renewal platform. The tendering process is up there for days now…Not sure how long it takes them to solve the problem. In worst case scenario, when a new renewal platform is created, we all will have to redo again from scratch (just similar how they requested applicants to take biometrics repeatedly).
