same here! I think Aima stops working until they find a new contractor to make a new renewal platform. The tendering process is up there for days now…Not sure how long it takes them to solve the problem. In worst case scenario, when a new renewal platform is created, we all will have to redo again from scratch (just similar how they requested applicants to take biometrics repeatedly).
Hello,
Thanks for sharing.
Would you please let us know the total amount in euros per applicant.
Thanks in advance
i will update the thread as events unfold. At this point, though, there is no expectation of needing biometrics as ours are relatively recent (2023). The in person appointment was scheduled before the zippy new portal was released.
I have my payment reference, and I’m going to my bank website to make the payment, but I can’t remember what category to use - my options are basically: Bills, Purchases, Tax, Social Security.
I know I knew how to do this when we first applied, but I don’t remember anymore. Can anyone share what they did for the payment? Thank you!
In millenniumBCP’s, it is under Gov and Soc Security including taxes, fees and others.
Novobanco its one of the three subtab choices under Bills/Purchases - a special tab called Payments to State. similar in Bison.
So you do not have to go to the renewal appointment? Were you able to request renewal on the new portal with no issues or were you getting some errors in the beginning?
Do you know if the renewal fees were the lower D2 fees or the higher fees? Some say the lower fees have changed starting March 1st and it’s back to the high renewal fees!
Could you please share how much were the lawyer fees for renewal and citizenship applications?
I thought I could get the renewal process started but with the errors I’m getting, I might have to go through a lawyer which is €1900 plus €437 VAT!
Neda, as of now there is no need to attend the renewal appointment for us. Even before the new portal was released, the plan was for that meeting to be managed by our law firm NSM and their attorney was to attend on our behalf - because no new Biometrics were required. This would have saved us a round trip from the US. Once the portal was released, focus shifted there.
I cannot to speak to the degree of hassle that NSM may have experienced, only to note that it took from 16Feb to 9March to complete a series of steps. While I would like to hear from them how it went, they are quite busy now and I dont want to consume their time for that.
The revised fees are noted in the image and also the full list of AIMA fees in the PDF which was provided by NSM. In our case for wife/son, EU3157.80 each (as fund investors).
I cant/wont quote for NSM, as we had a package that was prepaid and we have used the firm for all our legal work since 2021. I can say that I have found the fees to be acceptable and not excessive. Give them a call or email. They have a staff that does this for many clients all day long, every day, so their access and learning is much greater than anyone trying to DIY it.
Boris, were you able to confirm the renewal fee?
People say that renewal fees for golden visa is higher now and not €189 anymore.
I was told we were moved to D2 visa but the renewal portal shows “F2B - Art° 98/2 - Reagrupamento familiar (Titular AR Investimento)” which I think is not D2!
Here is AIMA page with the fees:

Hi Maria,
How did you register the NIF? Did you contact AIMA through the form and let them know about the error?
That is what I did and hope to get a response!
I added the NIF number through the contact form, selecting the “add or edit NIF number” option. I also tried submitting a bug report through the contact form, but received an error message. I tried using my card number and my husband’s card number to send a contact request, but it didn’t work.
It is actually not an error message. Ir basically says that you have already had one pending request. Once your request is solved, you will be able to send a new request…
Yes. I used two different card numbers to submit. One failed, and the other showed a pending request. I remember that I had already submitted a renewal request for May-June 2025, before AIMA opened the separate section for Golden Visa renewal appointment requests.
Thanks Tommy!
I should have not created NIF for my kids because dependents are not required to have NIF in the GV process. The tricky thing with the NIF is that once it’s created it cannot be deleted unless the person dies!
I would not recommend not obtaining NIFs for all dependents, and I struggle to see any risks in them having NIFs. There are bigger risks in this world that having a NIF
But that’s just my opinion.
Maria, was this for the error that says the investor’s residence title number and NIF do not exist? That’s the same error I’m getting in the renewal portal.
When you contacted AIMA, did you upload the main investor’s residence card and passport, or only your own documents?
I contacted them and uploaded my card and passport, explained the two errors, and included the investor’s residence number and NIF. They replied saying they fixed my NIF, but that was never the issue and I still get the same errors.
I’m thinking I may need to contact them again and upload the main investor’s documents so they can verify the investor record in the system.
@watsonhal2016 Thank you so much for your feedback, we are so happy to know that your experience with NSM has been positive.
The truth is that these changes in AIMA’s procedures take time and effort to tackle as the tools don’t always work perfectly and it is common for glitches and additional steps to arise along the way. We keep monitoring, adapting and reacting. Fortunately, as you mentioned, we have a team dedicated specifically to these matters, and because we assist so many clients, we are able to learn from each case and continuously adjust our procedures.
And, please, don’t feel constrained to reach out to us! AIMA certainly keeps us very busy, but our clients remain our top priority, and we are always happy to speak with you, answer questions, or explain any part of the process. It may take a bit longer than we would like to respond, but we are always delighted to talk and assist our clients!
@nedakh feel free to contact me if you’d like to understand how NSM could help.
As of today, nothing changes. It stays firmly at Payment Stage in which full amount was paid on March 4th.
Yesterday, somehow I managed to “recuperar accesso” for other dependent. Lawyers have already created account at Sef years ago but they argued that they did not create…long story short, i managed to regain access. I logged in the Portal Renovaçoes and requested renewal. Now it’s stuck at “pedido analisado”. It’s kind of strange because on March 4th the system moved to Payment Stage in just about 5 minutes after renewal was requested. Now it’s stuck for hours/days and maybe weeks/months/years until a contractor builds a new platform for Aima. Who knows…
Apart from ongoing renewal process, physical appointments at Aima Tavira was scheduled in April (requested via contactenos in Nov 2025 and got an email in Jan 2026 for the appointment in Apr 2026) . My dependents will still attend the appointment regardless of how successfully the online renewal process goes…
If my dependent receive their renewal cards within 2026, i consider it as a huge success…now it’s time to pray God/Allah/Big buddha
Is the new online process only for main applicants? I got my renewal application submitted successfully and received the recibo comprovativo de pedido (residence expiring in May) but i hear it is not possible to submit yet for dependents (which are also due in May). If it is possible, is there a different form of application for dependents?
Has anyone else encountered this error message when trying to create a new account?
This is for a non-investor spouse setting up a new account for a second renewal.
I have no idea what email AIMA thinks they have on file. We also tried the main applicants email in case they were linked but same message. Maybe our lawyer’s email?
