PGV / ARI Rage, Tragedy, & General Madness

Now what we’ve discussed is becoming a real threat.
Govt is aiming to increase time for citizenship. It is now 5 years and very likely it will be increased…
In the article, it even says that the govt’s intention is to increase from 5 year to 10 years :astonished:

Funny that the GV hucksters never mention the constant threat of arbitrary (and negative) changes like this

It was you only who thought of it first, maybe somebody from government went through your post and decided to implement it.

But one thing is for sure. The entire GV process and the subsequent citizenship process are going to get murkier, messier. The enlightened minister does not wish to even support his own government’s understanding regarding start of citizenship requirements much less the backlog in GV processing.

Yes. It is for sure going to be messier and murkier. No doubt. Who dare to say that it is going to be easier? People are struggling to have cards after 3-5 years of waiting…and 3-5 years now might become 6-7 years in future… it is absurd!!!

Continuing news are somewhat related to the intention to increase residency time for citizenship:

Portugal to hit 1.6 million foreign resident mark

At 1:10, he says:

…Precisamos de rever os requisites de atribução da nacionalidade portuguesa designadamente quanto ao prazo minimo de residencia e presença em território nacional……

In English: we have to re-look at the requirement of Portuguese citizenship process. Specifically the minimum period of residency and the presence in the national territory. :face_with_diagonal_mouth: :anguished:

It seems to me that how things play out. Firstly the changes are activated/announced by the media. All newspapers, TV, youtube shout out in the same direction in order to get public attention. Then govt/parliament will have meeting to discuss. Finally they will publish the new law…The same pattern is about to repeat…

So this would only happen if the current government retains power in the May election? Does anyone know how are the odds looking?

Here’s an overview in English

Doesnt matter who comes to power, seemingly populist measures will be adopted by every contending party once they aee in power. These are low hanging fruits.

This should absolutely be the end of new applications for Portugal Golden Visa. Who wants to wait 14-17 years from the moment of application to obtain citizenship?!?!

Seriously people, stay away!

How are we supposed to keep our money invested for 10+ years? Basically closed-end funds would be out, I suppose.

But what about those of us who already invested in closed-end funds?

And what about all the other technicalities of how GV interacts with citizenship? It may turn out that even GV holders need several years of physical presence to qualify for citizenship…

A newly enacted physical presence requirement combined with no NHR is a lobster trap. At some point, people who already invested will just cut losses and run.

Already considering it…

No…it is not gonna be 17 years, it is gonna be 20+ years minimum. 3 years and not even pre-approval for me. Let us say it takes another 2 years to get residence card and considering the intent of government, that is when new 10 year period for consideration starts. And over and above that it takes 5 years for citizenship. We will be renewing the gv 7 times with increased fees everytime. Most of us are self made people, having accumulated savings over a decently long career, 40+ in my opinion…so most of us would be 60+.

And i will be honest. I have zero trust on anything Portugal. I bought real estate which was already 40 percent more expensive than market price coz it was GV approved. The refurbishment contrary to committment in anycase gets delayed by 2-4 years for every project. But these were informed decisions. Still every step has been a steep expense and filled with insecurity and delays. Every time documents need to be updated is an additional expense. Bank charges 200 euro for the same fund transfer confirmation done more than 3 years back. We pay for tax representation, IMI every year. Today, i am not even sure about the logic followed by AIMA for giving pre-approvals and biometric appointments. Definitely it is not a chronological order based on either initial application or updated one. Maybe AIMA discriminates there too basis again maybe CPLP applicants or those from UK and US. Who knows?? And then they generate DUC with wrong amount. And then the cards with wrong details. If this all is not deliberate, then what is. In hindsight, i regret making this investment. And i am stuck with it.

Without doubt PT GV is the most painful experience that I have been through. I’ve been cheated, robbed, duped several times in my life. But I’ve never ever been scammed by any govt in the world until I stepped my foot into this “Wonderland of Promises”. It really is a crooky process and we all know who actually a real crook is!

And imagine during this 5 years of wait for the first card and then later 15 years of residency (10+ 5 years of IRN processing) till positive decision citizenship application is granted, if the primary applicant leaves for his heavenly abode or a married individual gets a divorce, the impact on all applicants is humongous. Documents need to be refreshed or worst some become ineligible. 5 years of wait for just the first card and then need to maintain residency for 15 years is too long a time to assume ur luck wont max out (when it actually maxed out the moment hard earned money was granted in charity to the state of portugal whether through real estate or fund investment or gifted in artistic endeavors).

It is no longer an assumption. Already happened here in this forum

After flushing his hard earned 250k into toilet, he is getting divorced… :face_with_spiral_eyes:
