Investment fund vs. real estate for Portugal golden visa; PFIC for US citizens

Hi folks, I had been leaning toward the investment fund option for pursuing a Portuguese Golden Visa. Yesterday, in another thread, I learned about PFICs and the obscenely punitive taxation and tax compliance burden they impose on US citizens. It looks like certain funds may produce the necessary documentation to reduce the suffering, but certainly not eliminate it.
