How can we become a member of the WhatsApp group?

As mentioned earlier, if you join the facebook groups, you should be able to find the posts that contain the invitation for the groups.

Can you give a bit more info to help us? Searching Facebook reveals dozens of groups, and then searching WhatsApp within the group gives dozens more hits. Thanks.

Has everyone submitted the Contagem de tempo with their citizenship application? My lawyer said there was no real need to do so. I hope she’s correct in her assessment.

Hi
It s unnecessary to submit it
Irn ask automatically and internally through platforms
Filed without the specific document
Otherwise you can revise the timeline estimation to 2 years or less for artigo 6.1

Interesting, I didn’t realize IRN will get the Contagem de Tempo from AIMA directly…

What about the GV cards? Everyone says we need to have valid (non-expired cards) but that’s not part of the submission process either correct?

(In other words, if AIMA would issue a positive 5-year contagem to IRN, i.e., due to the Decree / Artigo for coverage til 6/2025, then one with expired cards – but no renewal opportunity – technically can submit?)

Look for detailed posts from @seagu77 on this subject.
In short:

  • submitting your own contagem de tempo may or may not speed up your IRN process;
  • you need a valid non-expired residence card as IRN will check that at some point during the process.

The time of residence will be confirmed internally as i said, so don t mind about this matters since you have 5 years residency. But at the Time of application and submission of process it is compulsory to have a valid residency. No problem if it expires after the submission.

Worth to note that people around are overestimating every single matter…

artcile 6.1 residency time is the most straightforward process

Passport + language a2 certificate (ciple or Pla or etc) the most popular are CIPLE and PLA + criminal record+original birth certificate and a valid residency permit while applying. That s it

No more no less

According to some other feedback here it would be a problem as your card validity is checked by IRN at some later point during the IRN process, not exactly on your citizenship application submission date. If you card is expired upon the IRN check your citizenship process is allegedly paused.
I am simply referring to what others posted before, I have not gone through this myself yet.

Thanks both. It’s a bummer re: expired cards – when we (like most of us here) intend to keep them valid, but can’t.

Sadly in our case we cannot submit right on our 5-year date, until they open up renewals…

I really hope so!

That’s not my understanding. Do you have any data points of people who applied just before/as their card expired, never renewed, and still got citizenship?

Yes absolutely
At the time A relative of mine got his citizenship process approved at the time his GV residency card has expired already ( in a period of time extended by decree law ) the lawyer explained that the check has been already done while submitting and not while making the decision.

A lot of people are waiting to renew their GV visa residence permit and have already applied for citizenship.

Okay, according to @seagu77 there are different timepoints that can be quite spread out:

  1. apply for citizenship at IRN
  2. IRN checks documents
  3. IRN approves citizenship

If your residency expires between 2 and 3, that is fine because they already checked the documents.

But if your residency expires between 1 and 2, your citizenship process might be frozen until residency is renewed.

Does that match your understanding? That the people you’re talking about only had residency expire after step 2.?

Or are you saying some of them had residency truly expire (not extended by decree) before step 2. and still got citizenship?

Hello
for my relatives it expired between 2 and 3.
Even though the lawyer explained this:
While submitting the internal check is sending this kind of transaction: “first card date issued “
So number of years are calculated obviously because while submitting you must have a valid residency permit.

To answer your question about decree law extension:
It is assumed that you made the renewal so no gaps between renewals.

One more thing: the lawyer emphasizes : same thing like the criminal record certficate, at submission it must be issued in less than 90 days…
Processes are assessed later let s say 1,5 to 2 years later …so same understanding

Okay, so after applying it is probably wise to keep renewing until 2. (Document check) is complete.

If you are risk averse like me, I would just continue renewing until approval is granted since it is not much longer

Yes sure! for peace of mind better to renew

Hopefully when it comes …it will be at the 177 euros
And not the 6 042 Eur fees each card…

Insanely priced !

Is it possible for you to briefly explain what stages 1, 2 and 3 are so I know I’ll be at Stage 2 by May 2025 hopefully.

This is the best description of the citizenship stages I’ve seen on here:

IRN actually has stages in the process, as in the following diagram:

Updated as of November 2024.
Thanks @anonymous69 for pointing out the change.
