Proposal - Fact-Based Warning Documentation: Portugal GV

Hello everyone, I have been following this community for a while and have been in the GV process for 3 years without any movement on my application.

I probably don’t need to say this to anyone here, but this process has been an unmitigated disaster, this forum has been a blessing to navigate through this with some sanity.

I have a proposal for everyone who reads this. Before I say anything further, I want to be clear that I don’t make this post to complain, there are plenty of threads on that already.

My proposal is the following: I really don’t want anyone else to have to go through this process and have the same terrible experience that many of us did, oftentimes with whole life plans and finances being disrupted, so I am proposing that we come together in some way and develop some kind of fact-based newsletter or PDF documentation that can be circulated amongst online communities and people who are considering but have not yet applied for the Golden Visa.

This documentation will have the sole purpose of countering the horde of disinformation spread by the various unethical actors that still try to push the GV as some wonderful 6 month long project, or make false clickbait titles about how the laws are actually not changing etc.

The purpose of this documentation is not to tell people to not apply for the GV, if someone wants to still apply knowing the reality that’s their choice, but I was misinformed as an investor, and I am sure there are plenty of investors right now who are walking into a trap because it’s easy to get convinced by your own hope and strung along by companies who are just in it for the money, and those who peddle false hope.

This is obviously more of an altruistic project and it wont help anyone with their process, but at least it will help counter the disinformation. If anyone is interested or has some idea of what kind of content can go into something like this would be happy to hear it.

As someone currently going through the early stages of the process - I just mailed my law firm my apostilled documents - I would have appreciated seeing something like what you’re proposing. That said, I do think there’s a lot more balanced information about how arduous the process is now, versus a few years ago. I actually settled on my lawyer - Prime Legal - and fund - Optimize- because both were very honest about this not being a walk in the park. I’m only embarking on it because my plans are very long term and mostly focused on my daughter having eu citizenship by the time she’s ready for college (high school if we’re lucky), and she’s about to turn 2 years old. Maybe I’m a lot more clear eyed about the process than others who think there’s a fast track, but I’d hope anyone looking at it now is reading all of the same things I did and doing similar due diligence.

If you end up putting together some sort of document I’d be happy to contribute from my very limited perspective as someone at the very top of the funnel!
