Renewal of Golden Visa for €180

My Chinese wife is involved with these groups that discuss Portuguese visas. Lawyers dealing with Chinese clients claimn tbhat the GV can be renewed for €180 instead of the usuall €3000+.Either I can do it myself - they can help me - or for €1000 they can do it and you don’t have to be physically present. For $150 he said he’d make an apt with AIMA in FEB and help me with the paperwork. Has anyone else heard of something similar?

Can I ask: How long was your renewal valid for? In the past we always paid over €3000. I’m surprised it’s so little now.

This only applies to real estate, because it’s now the cheaper D2 upon renewal…

I renewed my ARI (GV) residency on Sep. 26 and paid EUR 181.50 instead of the approx. EUR 3,500 that I paid 2 years ago. The explanation that I was given is that ARI by real estate investment no longer exists so my visa category was changed to “visto de empreendedor.” The validity period has also been extended from 2 years to 3 years. I am still waiting to get my card. I am attaching the details of my receipt FYI. Upon hearing this, my lawyer jacked up her legal fees from EUR 2,000 (renewal that requires a physical presence) to EUR 3,400, but that is another story… lol

Your lawyer who didn’t know this is how real estate GV renewals have worked since roughly late 2023??

Think you need to find a new lawyer

I think that you’re absolutely right! Unfortunately, it looks like a minefield. So many unreliable lawyers out there!

Did you have physical real estate investment, or a real estate investment fund?

I have physical real investments that I maintain to this day. I have been holding a ARI GV since 2019.
