Wiki: Email Notification Tracking for Pre-July 2025 Renewal Applicants on AIMA portal

In theory, you only need to submit a foreign police certificate, if you “do not reside effectively in the National Territory” (according to AIMA’s PDF).
In practice though, I am not sure how they’d apply the effectiveness test, so I would think the risk of going for the appointment without your prior country of residence police check is just too high.

Thank you Tommy, are you able to share the AIMA’s PDF please.

Good morning everyone. Can anyone tell me if they have been able to reschedule a renewal appointment and how??

In April, my lawyer managed to get a GV renewal appointments for myself, my 20 year old son, and my husband (primary applicant) for mid-Sept. We have already applied for citizenship in January, and our last biometrics were in Sept 2020. I just read this thread today, and saw that we don’t need to appear in person for the renewals since our biometrics are not 10 years old. However, my lawyer is insisting there is nothing of this sort.

Has anyone’s lawyer been to AIMA on appointment day on their behalf for renewals purposes?

I think there is a lot of confusion about the process largely driven by misinformation and multiple AIMA application forms. According to the chart above, AIMA is prioritizing primary applicants and ignoring dependents. Bluelotus mentions their lawyer got them an appointment for dependent that expired in 2022. That is the first dependent renewal pre-June 30 that I have heard about. Its fairly old expiration date (2022) so I think AIMA must still be working chronologically through the backlog of dependent renewals.

Following - I have the same situation (same biometrics 2020; same appointments in mid-Sept). My lawyer is less “insisting” but sounds like they haven’t done such a renewal (w/o the applicants) yet either.

One of us likely can’t make it… so thinking rest of us will show up and see if maybe this “biometrics waiver” is true then or not…

(@Garbonzo we got these dependent renewals through old-school email requests early this year, prior to all these new process announcements; and have yet gotten any automated emails like some of the folks are reporting…)

This is what i mean by misinformation. People who post “i got an appointment” often don’t give the full picture of HOW they got the appointment or for whom or when their permit expired, so its hard to piece together what is really going on at AIMA.

I didn’t say in my post that cards expired 2022. Our cards expired in May 2025. The lawyer got us appointments in April for Septmeber so it was before the cards had expired. However, I have a friend with the same lawyer. Her cards expired in Feb 2025, and the lawyer emailed her the same day too with appointments for September. I think the law firm lucked out that day when they tried for appointments.

I inferred that from your post. You mentioned your last biometrics was in 2020 and at the time SEF was giving 2 year cards, so unless it took them 3 years to issue a card, or they issued you a 5 year validity card, it is puzzling that your card expired in 2025… Either way, having all the facts is the only way to piece everything together is my point.

Yes, I received my golden visa in Aug 2019, which expired in Aug 2020, biometrics were in Sept 2020, received my second card in April 2021. This card expired April 2023, and my lawyer renewed it online, so received the other one May 2023. That card expired in May 2025. However, I applied for citizenship in Jan 2025. So here is the entire timeline!

Good morning everyone, I still have not seen any posts about rescheduling. Has anyone been able to reschedule a renewal appointment? How was it done. On the portal there is a small calendar box but it is not activated. Please help.

We (family of 4) got appointments together for renewal in September 2025 for cards which expired in Jan 2025. The appointments were secured by email by our lawyer and all of them were together, primary and dependents.

Our lawyer told us that though newer renewal appointment mails had wording which waived physical presence requirement in most cases, our mails did not contain that wording, as they were from an earlier version of the renewal process. They told us it would be best to turn up in person, so we did. AIMA did take all our biometrics and photographs, and photocopies of our passports.

In general, AIMA does not migrate people on old processes to updated ones, so if possible, I would strongly suggest those who got the old-style renewal mail plan to attend in person.

Please clear all plans for the day - AIMA appointments can be delayed by hours. e.g. if you have a 10 am appointment, don’t assume you can catch a 5 pm flight.

Also: I can confirm that real estate investors and dependents are indeed charged the low D2 rate for renewals, approx €200.

How long are these GV/D2 cards valid for, 2 or 3 years?

3 years. We have at least one confirmed D2 conversion/renewal with the low fees and a 3 year validity period: Golden Visa to D2 Visa - #115 by myakira

If and when my card turns up, likely in several months, I will post an update.

How quickly after the AIMA appointment did you receive your residency cards?

For renewal, what are the fees? Was there an AIMA analysis fee paid along with the renewal fee?

It’s less than a month since the appointment, so I haven’t received the cards or have any news about them.
Yes there are both analysis and renewal fees. The tabela de taxas lists both amounts.

For the extinguished categories like real estate which are converted to D2, the analysis fee is 97.6 and processing/renewal fee is 83.9, so I paid a total of €181.50 per person.
