AIMA announced that they will start sending emails for renewal starting in July 1, 2025. I have created this wiki so that the group can add their personal experience to this tracker to help understand when AIMA is likely notifying specific applicants of their opportunity for renewals. Since the AIMA email is only coming for renewals prior to July 2025, this wiki does not apply to anyone with renewals after July 1 2025.
For example, when you receive an email from AIMA about renewal you can update the list below. If you can place your expiration date chronologically in the list, it will be easier for people to quickly understand the likely timing of receiving their own email. By doing this as a wiki, it should save people from scrolling through hundreds of messages to find the relevant information.

I’d be curious to know if renewals for real estate investment are being done as ARI or as “D-2”. We submitted our citizenship applications over a year ago and are trying to NOT renew the ARI, given that we live in PT full time. Any clues on this?
ARIs granted on the basis of real estate investment and capital transfer have been converted into D2 for many months now, since the change in the law came into force, with a fee of €181.50 paid at the AIMA appointment.
My lawyer told me a few weeks ago he would apply for a renewal for me as the website was “now open”. What he did NOT tell me was what would be needed at the renewal - does anyone know? Online or in person? New police clearance? I am nowhere near Portugal so if I need to travel, it’s an issue.
It is not clear at all. First, the pre-July 1 expirations supposedly may not require an in-person appointment if biometrics are less than 5 years old. For the D7/D8 crowd a renewal involves only a PT police check, so it is not clear whether a home-country police check will be required for GV renewals. I haven’t seen any reports of people getting the AIMA email for that AIMIA mission process (some are still getting IRN emails for the prior process). Second, the post June expirations are being arranged through a new online portal that came online at the end of last week (but only for July expirations). There is a lot of expectation that the process will be streamlined as for the earlier expirations, but that is yet to be seen. The new portal has been wracked with issues.
If your question is about the documents required for renewal, then i suggest you refer to the official AIMA list. This has not changed at all as far as I am aware.
Based on the following post it seems you only need to go in person for biometrics if it’s more than 10 years since you last submitted your biometrics data:
