WIKI: HOW-TO: Golden Visa Renewal Mega Thread (January 2025 →)

I’ve encountered a fair amount of what I suspect is astroturfing, some here but a whole lot more elsewhere.

Have you had problems getting one recently? I thought they had already started to work through that backlog (well, as much as AIMA works through anything). I applied for a renewal at the end of August and have an appt in early January. Admittedly that is still not nearly as swift as it should be, but these days as long as the government isn’t hitting me in the head with a brick, I feel somewhat relieved.

In less than 90 days, cards of my dependents will be expired. Today I tried several time to send a request of appointment via platform contactenos.aima.gov.pt but it kept giving an error that ARI process and passport number are not found in the system. Anyone has experienced the same error?

Or there is a possibility that AIMA locks all requests for family renewal as they only focus on giving appointments to the main applicants? And maybe for the same reason: main applicants are more vulnerable than the family members. Therefore appointments need to be given first to all main applicants. :face_vomiting:

The nasty circus show keeps spinning 4ever…I am quite sick of it now…

You are starting to understand how this works. The government wants us to integrate to society, but at the same time treats us worse than dirt in the cracks of the calcadas. Thank you for your investment!!

Has anyone (who had a September renewal) received their card yet (or am I being completely crazy thinking that a card would be received in 2 months)

I’ve had a Sept 24th renewal and haven’t received my card yet. I’ve found a crowd-sourced site on renewals, and it looks like we should be expecting our new cards to take an average of 113 calendar days to arrive from the appointment date.

Here’s the link, make sure to filter for renewals (and not initial card).

I had renewal on 26 Sept and of course have not received my card. I was thinking to ask my lawyer after 2 months from renewal. Now I would wait after new year before asking.

When someone finally gets a card, I’m also interested in knowing how long between the appointment date and the actual start date of the card. In the past, the hold up was often blamed on the card printing, so the effective card date was only a few days after the renewal appointment even of you waited months for the physical card … which of course makes travel plans a nightmare. Fun, fun, fun!

Yes, one of the reasons we wanted to do the Golden Visa was having ease of travel in the Schengen area. Now we have been without cards the whole year (cards expired in January) so it has caused more (unnecessary) admin when needing to apply for a Schengen visa and more uncertainty as we have a trip planned next April and now don’t know whether the cards will come in time or whether we must just go ahead and apply (again unnecessaily) for another Schengen visa. I often feel like I want to cry over this whole Golden visa situation, it has been a constant strain…

What? You mean the following sales claim isn’t how it actually works? I’m shocked!
