I’m exploring moving to Portugal and will be visiting in early March.
I don’t want to live in the city, I’ve had enough of that. I plan to visit the university towns of Coimbra and Braga, they seem smaller and the library at Coimbra is calling to me.
Are there any expats (or locals) there that I could talk to? I’d like information on what it’s like to live there, what areas are best and whether or not I’d need a car.
Hi Joni,
from my experience, moved in Braga last year , smaller city , less traffic , less rent to pay for apartment /house , everything close , walkable
Thanks, Sandeep. My situation is complicated because I have 2 dogs. I found an initial apartment in Figuiera da Foz while I search for places. I liked Braga, I’m looking for a university town, but I’m a little concerned that it might be too cool for me. Any thoughts on finding accommodation with dogs in Braga?
Hi Joni,
Having Dog in Braga is too common , i am seeing Dogs with almost everybody , so far my experience, one of my close friend, they have a dog and renting an apartment, best way to search apartment is IDEALISTA again , give you plenty of options.
I will recommend to see area like Sao jose de sao lazaro close to center and important parks , walkway with river through the town.
Hi, Sandeep, thanks for the response. Braga sounds very dog friendly! I won’t be back in Portugal for a couple of months, but once I’m settled I’ll be exploring Braga. I’m interested in knowing what the weather will be like in winter.
My family lives full time in Braga, i am keep on going in and out , i spent last winter in December, it was not too harsh but very wet , rains almost 2-3 days in week. happy to help if you need anything else.
