Criminal record from country of birth or residence?

Is the criminal record required from country of birth as well if I have been living somewhere else for the last 10 years? Or can I just submit the criminal record from the last country I have been living in for the last 10 years? Anyone got experience with obtaining a criminal record from South Africa if living in the UK, i.e. can you get remotely or do you have to travel there to get it personally?

You only need the criminal record from the country of residence.
Here is another thread asking the same question you have:

Hi Jame, for the UK criminal record purposes, did you go for DBS or ACRO?
It seems that gov.uk suggests ACRO is required for visa purposes, however my lawyer mentioned DBS is also good, so I am a bit unsure. I understand that DBS can only provide a ā€˜basicā€™ check, so will that be enough for SEF?..

How about short-term travels?
For example i traveled to a third countries for two weeks for work or vacancy in the past one year, do i need a additional record for this period?
