I am just starting my D7 visa process for Portugal and have been shocked and amazed by some of the costs that people have paid…this ranges from 400 to over 4000 euros for essentially the same thing.
Does anybody have any experience of this ?

Those prices are what service firms charge. The SEF (the borders and immigration service) fee for a D7 visa submission was 80€ on 1 Sept 2021.
