So I have seen a couple of posts here of folks citing their lawyers stating that one has to maintain their investments and GV cards while their citizenship through naturalisation application is pending. Is it the same case with D7 permits? Does this mean that I cannot simply leave Portugal for good after I get to the 5-year D7 residence mark and apply for citizenship?
You need to maintain your valid residence permit.

Not exactly true. You need to have it valid at the time of applying for a citizenship. You don’t need to maintain it for all 5 years, I think.
