How’s your D7 to GV conversion going? I’m considering doing the same thing!
My GV application started from Aug 2022, till now nothing happed, it’s been more than 21 months without moving at all. No pre-approval, no nothing. So I’m considering to have a D7, since I’m still living outside of Portugal. But my lawyers they are against my decision, they said, if I go for D7, my GV will be stopped automatically. But How? I mean, these 2 visas are definitely in 2 different departments. But your information shed the light on my question. Only when you have holding one visa on your hand, applying another is not allowed. But right now, I don’t have any one of them, presumably, I can submit my D7 application, while the GV stuck over there without any movement. Am I right, please correct me.
Thanks in advance.
You lawyer is against the converting GV to D7 because he/she wants to suck up your money. With D7 one can do it without lawyer if there is portuguese in your home country (I believe so). When you apply for D7 in your home country, process will be normal as usual. But after you are approved by the embassy and you come to AIMA according to the D7’s appointment, you will be asked to sign a document to stop GV. AIMA will surely see 2 requests by you and you have to pick one out of two. The embassy knows nothing. They only approve and forward you to AIMA. If you really want to proceed it, you can do it youself. Instruction is available on facebook group’s american and friends…
In order to apply to D7, you will need to cancel GV program. Otherwise your application will not be accepted. You could not simultaneously apply for two different residence permits.
Yesterday, I called my immigration lawyer asked about this document she mentioned, to pick one out of two. She said, even, even by the time, I picked GV, the document still will take about 1 year to restart the GV process… What a system…
I have this question too.
It seems crazy to cancel the GV applications unless/until we know our D7s have been approved.
So the question of WHEN we will be forced to choose is very important. If it’s not until after the D7 is approved, we can live with that.
Does anyone have confirmed experience with this?
when you go submit the biometrics for D7, at the counter, there will be a form waiting you to sign to cancel one of it.
Did you cancel your GV?
Thank you!
No.
I prepared documents for D7, but just before submitting it, I decide to quite. Lawyer warned, if I go for D7, the previous 2 years will be in vain…
Why would I go D7? becoz, I was planning to sue AIMA, but lawyers said I need a urgent reason and a local address, which I don’t have. so, I decide to go for D7, to rent a place then, sue AIMA. but, if I go D7, GV will be cancelled…if I don’t go D7, I even don’t have a visa… how to get an address? what a system!
Do you need a visa to rent a place? Or you could just just make plans to move and use that as a reason? Others have done it.
You don’t need a visa to take a long term rental - just a NIF
Anyone have any update on this one? My lawyer is telling me that it’s fine to apply for GV and D7 simultaneously, but I keep reading conflicting information. (I was about to apply for GV this week but am debating switching to D7 due to political instability as an American.) Thanks!
My lawyers were very firm that doing so could/would jeapordise the GV. Might get away with it, but bad idea.
