Gv residency cards 3rd renewal processing time

Hi All

I would like to hear from anyone who has done their 3rd renewal of the GV residency cards, specifically how long it took from biometrics to receipt of new cards. We did our biometrics and payments in Evora on 3rd June, and are still waiting.

Many thanks

Did you book the delivery by post to your home/lawyer’s address, or collection in-person at the same AIMA office in Evora?

We booked delivery by post to our home address.

My entire family had their biometrics appointment for our 4th GV residency cards (3rd renewal) on September 30, 2025 in the extremely remote city of Bragança. I received my new card this week, and am still waiting on the cards for my wife and daughters. The best news is that my card is valid for 3 years! It expires December 10, 2028. My first card was valid for 1 year, the 2nd and 3rd ones were valid for 2 years, and this new one is valid for 3 years!

Any reason you didn’t request GV PR.
Since you have held a GV for 5 years?

My citizenship application was submitted in May 2024. It is my understanding that I have to keep the GV for my family members until they apply for citizenship.

I believe GV PR also serves this purpose. In fact it is better because the GV PR is independent, so even if you become a citizen they can renew PR, whereas they cannot renew GV since it depends on your GV (which terminates the moment you become a citizen).

Fantastic news - what a relief that must be for you guys. Crossing fingers for us…

We applied for GVPR for those who satisfied the language requirement.

Same no cards since June 17th, Portimão. According to lawyer, still in progress, which is very weird. No answer from Aima to multiple emails either…

My lawyer told me that no matter where biometrics were taken, all GV renewals are processed in a small AIMA back office in Porto. they dont take calls, emails or visitors.
