Introduce yourself! šŸ‘‹

Thanks for the offer. We’re looking to come to Portugal in late fall 2020, provided we are out of the crisis and it is safe to travel. Ou rmain area of interest is in central or northern PT. We love Porto, but we understand that it is likely to be off-limits to GV soon, so we are looking more inland, at places like Coimbra and Braga.

Do you know if places like Coimbra and Braga would qualify for the lower level real-estate investment amount?

Also, we are looking to make contact with a reputable, reliable lawyer to help guide us. Is there a place on the website that has referrals? Or do you know of one you’d refer?

Lastly, I’d be interested in your thoughts of the investment option. It gives the advantage of not picking a place to live and sinking large capital into physical real estate at a time when the real estate market could be poised for some big changes. On the other hand, I don’t know how or whether the investment options are going to survive the covid crisis. Any insights would be very welcome.

Best regards,

Hi All,

I am Ritchie (@rkashmirian). I am not quite a nomad though I have travelled and lived in many countries over the years. I am an independent IT consultant and a serial entrepreneur - currently working on a new project which I am very excited about. I call Australia and Canada home.

I stumbled upon ND whilst trying to learn a bit more about the Estonian e-residency. I loved the article on that topic on the NG site.

Looking forward to getting to know some of you out there.

Cheers,

Hello everyone

My name is Giorgio I’m from Italy, but I spent a good amount of time in the past 4 years or so in the US and Asia. I am currently in Da Nang, Vietnam.

I just found out about NomadGate and I’m really enjoying all the amazing resources that have been shared here.

I recently alos quit my remote job and I am now planning to start my personal blog, plus do some freelance copywriting and work on some other projects I have in mind.

My favorite podcast ever, that I listened to countless times is Naval’s appearance at the Knowledge Project. If you don’t know Naval I highly encourage you to take a listen, one of the wisest people I found on the internet. He’s a philosopher disguised as a startup founder/investor.

Looking forward to connecting with you guys.

Hi, my name is Oscar and I’m a tax assessor.
I’m from Argentina and last year I made a six-month test travel across Brazil while working remotely. Everything went fine and I realized that living like a nomad was feasible. Only some minor adjustments were needed and those were made sooner than later because of coronavirus pandemic.
And now, here I am, waiting for borders to open to plan where I’ll be heading to. Maybe more South AmĆ©rica, maybe Eastern Europe, maybe both!
Fortunately I found NG and, surely, it will help polishing my plans and make my waiting more useful.
Well, see you soon… Cheers!

Hi, I’m Prasanth. I’m in the US currently waiting on a long perm residency wait list for years and years. Losing hope by the minute. I’m currently looking at Portugal for investment opportunities to get a back up plan if in case my US journey doesn’t workout. Portugal does look promising, I love to travel and this investment surely will help with that.

Hello Fellow Nomads! :person_raising_hand:t2:
I’m Marnie, American :us: by passport, European in soul. Married to a Brit :uk:. We emigrated 10 1/2 yrs ago to The Netherlands :netherlands:(second time for me) with our then 2yr old son. We’ve enjoyed our stay here but have been here longer than we planned & now Brexit has put a wrench :wrench:in our plans to move elsewhere within Europe. We do not want to return to the UK or move to the US but don’t think it’s prudent to relinquish our home citizenship either so we’re considering Portugal :portugal: due to the Golden Visa option. We’ve been there on holiday and love it but none of us speak Portuguese so the language barrier alone is daunting-I’ve done an on-line course so have learned a bit. Really just trying to find a safe place with friendly people, warm weather :sun_with_face: & an affordable lifestyle-delicious food :shallow_pan_of_food: & wine :wine_glass: is a plus!
Work: aviation :airplane: but would also like to run a B&B or something similar
Our favorite places: New Zealand, Portugal, Croatia, Romania & Bulgaria
Happiness & good health to you all!

If you can consider an alternative country that is outside the EU but with an association agreement and equivalent of free trade agreement with the EU, then perhaps you could consider Georgia?

You should def consider Portugal and language will not be a barrier. There are so many expats living in Portugal and people are friendly so you’d be speaking Portuguese in the blink of an eye!

Hi everybody, I am Diana

I really could use your help! I am a geography student at the university of Zürich and I am currently working on a project about digital nomads. It’s a small group project and not to be published in a paper or anything else. At the moment we are conducting a survey (about 15 minutes) with digital nomads and are still missing a few answers. Since it is part of our task to write a result-essay you would absolutely get to see to what you contributed. If you are interested in helping me, have any question and filling out the survey–> hit me up! Thank you so much!!!

Hello everyone

My name is Harris and I’m a software engineer. I help people build mobile apps (iOS & Android) and web apps. I’m currently the co-founder of a startup called Uplet.

Right now, I’m based in Montreal but I’m planning to live the nomad life assuming covid-19 doesn’t get dramatically worse world wide by August/September.

:world_map:
Here’s a list of cities I would like to visit in their respective order:

Asia:

  • Doha
  • Bangkok
  • Chiang Mai
  • Hanoi
  • Ho Chi Minh City
  • Singapore
  • Balikpapan

African Stop:

  • Cape Town

Latin America:

  • Buenos Aires
  • Rio de Janeiro
  • Lima

And finally going back home. It’s probably too ambitious, but I’m planning on being a nomad for at least a year. I mapped out the trip here: https://triphappy.com/t/1965140

Any comments/feedback is greatly appreciated.

I’m looking forward to getting to know people in the community!

Hello my name is Dimitrios Tourikis TEP, MCSI and Iam a Tax & Wealth Advisor . Iam managing partner in CALLAMUS ( www.callamus.com) . I travel a lot around the world but mostly between my offices in London-Athens-Nicosia.

Hi my name is Peter Edwards, from the UK, I love chatting and communicating with other. Places I love are the South of Ireland and the South of England. Most of my career was in Administration and Accounting, which was very enjoyable. :sunglasses:

Audio books and always willing to learn. Travelling would be something that I enjoy providing there is a hospital close by, due to having medical needs that need attention.

Hey guys, I am Max, I am nomad since 2017 and I am currently in China. I am doing SEO and affiliate marketing. My next stop will be Georgia.

Also I am currently very annoyed about SMS approval codes, is there a good solution? My bank accounts etc. are closed and problematic because of that a lot of times.

Hi Yana, I am planning to move to Vietnam temporarily and was looking for borderless banking system. I checked the link you have provided, but the cost is like 2% of the amount in fees they are charging. Is there anyone else who charge less fees? Also would like to know if you can share about your tax things. Most people these days I see are discussing about Georgian banks (TBC Bank), but the problem I see about it is they are not having customer care who gives support in English language. Even there are some mixed signals, some say the customer service is good and some say it is not. To operate an account from overseas does not make sense if the customer service is not good. It will only make matters worse. If you can give some insight into it, that would really help.

I think the banking issue everywhere now is: do you have official residency and economic substance in the country where the bank is located? I think this issue will roll out globally over time. This is why some of us are using TransferWise which works well - but depending on your country does not always provide a debit card :frowning: .
Some people who are nomads or from unsupported countries talk about applying for N26 or TransferWise as if you live in one of their supported countries. I am a very cautious type of person and my business has a lot to loose, so my own view and approach is not to ā€˜pretend’ I am located in a supported country… in case in the future that is used against me as proof I am resident in some other (taxable) jurisdiction. Nobody knows when TransferWise etc will be forced to share info with countries we claim to be from when we apply for their services, so I take the safest course and only apply for services that I am eligible for from my actual country of residence. I understand this approach is especially hard for people who are nomads and from unsupported countries originally :(.

Hi all! :wave:t2:

My name is Kayla and I recently decided to spend a year (though I get the feeling maybe more) traveling internationally, spending 1-2 months at a time in different countries, coming home to the U.S. every now and then to visit loved ones.

This is by far the craziest thing I’ve ever done. However, I have nothing really tying me to the U.S. any longer as I recently got divorced and decided not to continue on to Grad School. I’m a creative writer with a remote job for an internet marketing company, so my plan is to spend part of each week working the marketing job and the rest of the time acquiring new experiences and ideas to write about.

I’ve already started doing research into many of the things I’ll need to do to make this plan work well, but I’d love to hear your feedback on the following, or if you can send me links to articles here that are relevant, that would be super helpful!..

:pill: I’m on antidepressants and birth control. Is there a way to get those RX’s while traveling or in bulk before I travel?? I’m planning to use SafteyWing insurance, but they don’t cover RXs.
:moneybag: I have a U.S. bank account but should I get an international one too? Are some better than others??
:iphone: I have an iPhone with wireless carrier Ting. I know they’re a small company and I won’t be able to keep using them… what’s the best way to have a phone plan with wireless data access while traveling abroad? Do I just need to buy a SIM in every country? How does billing work for that?
:airplane: I’ve heard of using Hopper as a good way to find flight deals. What are some other apps out there that you recommend for flights?

That’s all I really have right now, but if anyone has any advice please let me know. I don’t know anyone else personally who has basically decided to sell all their stuff and travel, so I could really use an insider’s perspective.

Thanks! :yellow_heart:
