Looking to buy in Obidos for our GV. I’d like to use my self directed IRA to fund it. Do I need US legal help to do this? Any lawyers experienced in this route?
There’s some good information on this in these threads:

I am also looking into using SD-IRA for GV but I am hearing 2 stories. First one being I can directly fund thru my SD-IRA & everything will be fine & 2nd one I hear that you actually need to do it by having a LLC in US & one in Portugal under my name to be able to use SD-IRA correctly. Anyone has any insight in to this?
The “traditional” way is to use an LLC on the US side and a Lda on the Portuguese side, however if you invest in a fund that support it you can invest directly in it from your US self-directed IRA account.
Optimize is the only one I’m aware of that is set up this way, but if it proves popular it’s possible other funds will follow suit and do the necessary legwork.
From the newsletter we sent out on March 5 this year:
Qualifying for a Golden Visa with a direct IRA investment is now possible
For Americans with significant savings in IRAs, the path to a Golden Visa application using self-directed IRA (SDIRA) funds now seems more feasible than ever. One of our community members recently submitted their Portugal Golden Visa application based on an investment their SDIRA made into Optimize’s Portugal Golden Opportunities fund.
The extra good news is that it was done without setting up the usual US LLC and Portuguese Lda that has usually accompanied SDIRA-backed GV investments. Not even a Portuguese bank account was needed—making this a very straightforward way for US citizens and residents to invest in a Golden Visa.
If you want to learn more about this tax-advantaged pathway to the Golden Visa, I’d recommend reaching out to Optimize to learn more.
Isn’t it possible for a SDIRA to invest directly into 3 Comma Capital (3CC) Portugal Golden Income Fund (Portugal Golden Income Fund - 3 Comma Capital)?
I understand Optimize will accept SD-IRA directly but I don’t think any of the clients have withdrawn money to find out if any issues from IRS since that is when IRS will actually get involved.
I could be missing something but not sure what has Optimized done differently to have this “special” arrangement (with IRS) vs the others? If they can explain that would bring some ease. Thank you.
