Is NISS needed for online renewal of Residence Permit?

Dear all,

I’m about to renew my residence permit early next year. I know now that every process is done online at the moment. However, I heard that upon registering online, a NISS is also needed besides NIF. I’m just wondering if this is the case?

The online renewal portal for a time required a NISS. I think that has been sorted out now. You can get a NISS without registering an activity.

New online ARI renewal process (Feb 2026)

We do not need a NISS for renewal. A declaration of ‘no record’ from Social Security should suffice. Having a NISS though, followed by online registration, allows for obtaining the necessary Social Security declaration of ‘no debt’ free of charge and easily without a lawyer in the future.
