I follow AIMA on LinkedIn (LinkedIn Login, Sign in | LinkedIn) and they posted 2 days ago an updated mechanism for CPLP applicants to renew and today a new mechanism for getting appointments.
While not directly relevant for us, it does hint that they are working behind the scenes to get the processes updated for renewal. Given that the current system is basically broken, it’s nice to see some glimmer of hope.
Yeah, alarm bells started ringing when I read this:
Leitão Amaro said that these CPLP citizens will start to be called from next week for the collection of biometric data and verification of the documents necessary for the replacement and renewal of the residence permits issued.
So that new focus on processing GVs that AIMA announced last month? “We’ll get right to you, after we finish serving these 213,000 other customers…”

• Requerimento para a concessão da Autorização de Residência e consulta do registo criminal português;
• Certificado do registo criminal emitido pela autoridade competente do país de nacionalidade do requerente ou do país em que este resida há mais de um ano;
• Comprovativo da existência de meios de subsistência.

The form is available to CPLP citizens who have a visa without indicating the date for scheduling (the date appears in the comments field) for granting a CPLP Residence Permit.
The correct completion of the form implies the express indication of the consular visa and passport number and the sending of a copy of the passport and visa** in the field provided for this purpose.
For the granting of a CPLP Residence Permit, the following documents are required:
• Passport or other valid travel document;
• Application for the granting of a Residence Permit and consultation of the Portuguese criminal record;
• Certificate of criminal record issued by the competent authority of the applicant’s country of nationality or of the country in which the applicant has resided for more than one year;
• Proof of the existence of means of subsistence.
