For several weeks, I’ve been getting this error message when I try submit a renewal for a dependent.
Tech support messages to AIMA go unanswered. My lawyer raised it with AIMA in person and they basically shrugged and said, yeah that happens, bashed their fingers on the keyboard like they knew what they were doing, and said try again in a week. No change.
I’m pulling my hair out … anyone have any bright ideas?
UPDATE: my lawyer did get some more info from AIMA in case anyone else is having the same issue. Apparently it is a known glitch for some GVs.
In short, the old in-person renewal database isn’t fully synched with the new portal database (because of course, that would make too much sense ).
Because my last in-person renewal still hasn’t been finalised and my card has now expired, AND the portal database hasn’t been updated to note my renewal was even submitted, my dependent’s can’t renew online. And that means they can’t renew at all.
Yet another tech support ticket has been submitted but all we can do is wait.
If I’m invested in a closed-end fund that shuts down 6yrs after I applied (applied in 2021, it shuts down in 2027), how do I stay on the ARI renewal treadmill? I got my 1st ARI residence card in 2025 and will need to renew in 2027.. but my fund shuts down.
Wow, that was quick! You received your child’s card in just under two months. I also just uploaded the documents and received the card renewal receipt for my child yesterday. Hopefully my child’s cards will be processed as quickly as your child’s. The renewal fee for my child’s card is €185.60. Did you finally get your money back after it was wrongly charged to you?
Speak to a lawyer of course, but my understanding is that in that situation you would need to move your money into another fund or investment that is compliant with ARI so that when you renew, you can show you are holding an investment that still complies. Otherwise you will not be able to renew and you will lose the permit.
Some funds are looking at ways to extend the life of their funds, but this might only be a year or so and would require shareholder approval.
However, I don’t know if the new investment would be at the original value of €350,000 or the current required investment of €500,000. Asking investors to cough up another €150k due to bureaucratic delay and AIMA’s sheer incompetence would no longer surprise me.
What happens if your dependents’ card expires and you cannot apply for renewal because of portal issues? (While the main applicant was able to apply and waiting for the renewal evaluation) what will be their status as the cards have no extension? Thanks
