New online ARI renewal process (Feb 2026)

I’m just like you. I had a renewal appointment with AIMA Porto on April 13th. They only took my biometrics (although unnecessary) and did nothing else, not even provide support. They directed me to the Centro de Atendimento AIMA Porto for assistance, where I had to wait in a long line in the rain, and the result was pointless. I asked about my husband’s renewal application on October 21st, 2025, which is still under analysis, and my child’s AIMA account, which was lost without explanation, has still not been recovered. AIMA could do nothing but send me back home to wait.

Hi Boris,
Could you let me know if the analysis process for your recent online renewal has been completed? My online renewal process entered the analysis phase on April 11th and has not yet progressed to the next stage.

Hello Maria,

My sons’ applications have been approved. I forgot when – it was some time ago – but I did post in this forum about the approvals.

No cards have arrived yet, though.

After 60 business days to be more accurate, and we all know how AIMA adheres to these deadlines

Congratulations! I also know you shared about your direct renewal process. At the time, I just thought you had completed the document upload step and moved on to the analysis phase. I didn’t expect your analysis process to be so quick. Thank you very much for sharing the details about this.

Hi Maria,
Could you create the account for your child? The error for mine was fixed the day after I contacted AIMA and I was able to create an account.
Did you get a new apostilled birth certificate for your child?

Hi Neda,
I met with AIMA in person on April 13th, but I still haven’t been able to create an account for my child. How did you contact AIMA? I have a new apostilled birth certificate for my child in January. Has your renewal process been completed?

Has anyone been able to send documents to AIMA to get them to update the residence card listed on the portal to the current residence card number? Mine is still showing my first card, not the second card. I sent them a copy of the new card in the context of updating my SNS but they did not update the card details. I wonder if there is some secret to accomplishing this?

My renewal is not completed. I’m still gathering my documents. The site says to upload within 10 working days but a lawyer told me it’s not strict and it will not be shutdown.
I contacted AIMA through the contact form. Uploaded the residency card, passport and new NIF with explanation of my issue. Was resolved in a day. Hope this helps.

I’m curious how you managed that. I uploaded it online through my lawyer, but the system doesn’t accept family members’ applications, so we can’t register them.

What’s the issue, you have all the info and can’t create an account for dependents?

The problem is, we can’t register spouses and children on the renewal portal; it gives the error message “Unidentified citizen or currently unavailable”.

By register do you mean create an account? Go to https://contactenos.aima.gov.pt/contact-form
to contact AIMA.

Choose the NIF option if you have an account but can’t do the renewal. Choose the last option “Portal das Renovações” if you can’t even create an account. Upload the requested document and write a letter with your info explaining the situation and the error you get. Hopefully they will respond and fix it. If you have an account but can’t do the renewal it’s because the NIF is not connected to the main applicant. So upload the main applicant documents and in the letter explain the situation with your own info so they can connect the two files. I don’t have a lawyer and had to fix many issues myself!
Hope this helps!

My issue is different.
When I log in to renewal portal, i see my first resdeince card details which shows expired and the wrong residence card number. I tried the contactenos portal to correct this information to my current residence card, but I don’t see any option to update the card number (only options for updating NIF, NISS, address).

Do you have any suggestion?

So you have 2 residence cards and you are seeing the info about the first residence card and you want to renew your second card? Can you start the renewal application? If so, I think that is fine and they use the original residence card. Other people renewing their second card can chime in.

Yes, that is correct. I see only info about first card. I cannot renew yet because I am not eligible until next month. Only now I try to fix any problems in advance.

After exactly 60 calendar days of “Analyzing” the status of my renewal application went to “Consulta UCFE”.

My online renewal initially received a “Pedido em Audiência Prévia” (not good), but a couple days later it quietly went back to “Avalação”, and then “Consulta UCFE” just afterward. It has been stuck there for several weeks.

For “Consulta UCFE”, the button for printing out the barcoded comprovativo is gone. The original document says it is renewable every 60 days. I asked both of my lawyers about how to renew it, but they didn’t reply. I’m assuming they don’t know and thus didn’t respond at all.

I have already passed the 60 day mark. If anyone knows how to renew the comprovativo, please share your discovery!

Boris, could you share a link to the approvals forum or advise how long did it take for your and dependants’ applications to be processed?

Hi. I did post about it, albeit some time ago:

I applied for my sons mid-march. By the end of march, applications were approved. Cards were delivered end of april, but their issue date was 26 march. They are good for three years.

I also applied for another relative at the same time. But she is not a dependent. Her application is still ‘em availação’.
