The renewal receipt with a QR code in PDF format was sent to your email by AIMA immediately after you completed the document upload process. Can I ask you, since your analysis process has been going on for over 60 days and you still haven’t received any results, is that correct?
The renewal of Residence Permits for Investment (ARI) for securities that expired between February 22, 2020 and June 30, 2026, is now available on this Portal.
Thanks Maria. Does AIMA have your child’s NIF in the system? I thought it might be because I have just gotten them a new NIF that should be registered in their system. So weird that they don’t even know what the issue is!
Yes, a PDF was emailed along with the notification, and the same “recibo” document was also available for a brief time by clicking a button on the renewal portal. It was available online only while the case was in the vanilla analysis state, not the “Consulta UCFE” state.
I doubt that any ARI holder has reached the 60 day mark since the recibo was issued through the new renewal portal process. The portal only went live around mid-February, and everyone seemed to encounter unforeseen, time-consuming struggles on the journey to submission. I haven’t reached the 60 day mark yet but I want to be maximally prepared as it approaches.
My goal for this sub-thread is to accumulate our collective knowledge about how to “renovate” this essential recibo document every 60 days, if possible. Moreover, I want to proactively comply with any vigilance tasks that might be required to keep the request active. More specifically, if I must take some step every 60 days to renew my temporary extension, I want to ensure that I take care of it on time.
The wording in the recibo says that renewal is automatic until the case is resolved, FWIW, but I am not ready to lapse into complacency just yet.
I registered my child’s NIF with AIMA when I first created the account and received a confirmation email, but since losing my account, I tried registering the NIF again and haven’t received a response email.
Could you tell me what the “Consulta UCFE” status means? I’m only at the “Avaliação” stage. So, is it possible that no one has reached the stage of completing the process within the 1 month? The receipt mentions automatic renewal after 60 days, so it’s very possible that the review process could take several months.
“Consulta UCFE” seems to be a background check request from the Unidade de Coordenação de Fronteiras e Estrangeiros. I don’t have any insights about the process.
May I ask if your dependent is under 18 years old? Did you encounter any errors when creating an AIMA account for your dependent initially?
2 dependents are under 18 and 1 is adult.
I did not receive any error message when creating the dependents accounts or my own on the Portal. After creating the account, I immediately received the payment instructions, made the payment on Saturday April 18th, and today received an email confirming the payment was received. Now, when I log into the Portal, the option to upload the requested documents appears.
Hello Boris,
Thanks for all information.
I started the renewal process through the Portal after waiting more than 6 months for the decision on the physical renewal process carried out in October 2025.
All requested documents require a certified copy to be attached. You had your renewal approved, did you certify all documents or only some of them?
Which documents did you certify?
Wow, your renewal fee is surprisingly low. The renewal fee I just paid was 185.6 euros for a dependent, i.e., the spouse of the main applicant with the same residency title as yours
Hello.
I only had the “termo de responsabilidade” certified - signed in the presence of a notary. The rest of the documents I submitted were simple colour scans.
Boris
So you intend to pay once again to AIMA for the renewal itself and to your lawyers/govt. etc. for the preparation of all your documents?
In the hope that your new online renewal will be faster than the offline one you already started 6 months back?
Like you, I waited for my scheduled appointment (April 20, 2026). The AIMA office in Castelo Branco refused to process the renewal and told me (actually my lawyer who was there in person) to apply online. Did this happen to you?
Yes, I paid AIMA twice for the same service. I prepared the documents myself, so I didn’t have any lawyer fees.
No. In my case, my family did the in-person renewal in October 2025 (before the Renewal Portal existed), but I called AIMA last week and they haven’t even started analyzing the applications. So I decided to roll the dice and also request the online renewal in the Portal… let’s see which application goes faster. I wouldn’t be surprised if in a few months I receive two Residence Permit cards.
Yes, this seems like an odd choice considering that your new app could void your original application. Also, after 90 days the original application is automatically granted, so now you are submitting a second application?
That response from AIMA does not mean anything really, because the duration of actual ‘analyzing’ is near zero as compared to the wait until that ‘analyzing’ happens.
But it’s a pioneering approach nevertheless to launch two parallel renewals, so would appreciate if you update us in due course.
I am mentally prepared to spend my next three years with an expired card and a renewal receipt, if it’s good enough for the border control it’s good enough for me ![]()
I will watch your process, as I may well be in the same position next year..! ![]()
