I am in the process of applying for a Golden Visa for Portugal. I have seen some very shocking posts elsewhere about the difficulty of reporting PFIC information with US Taxes - including estimates of 35-45 hours to do the IRS filing. I am trying to determine whether this is actually true. It seems shocking to me that one or two IRS forms would take a week to complete if the Portuguese fund provided the needed documentation. Please advise. Thanks in advance.
There are many threads here on the topic of PFIC.
It is not 35-40hr of work, however. It’s about 15 minutes if you know how to do it. There are services that can help, just again search/google.
