Wow, that is like a totally different planet from the one we live on now! ![]()
Unfortunately!.. However, miracles still do happen.
You mean there was hope for those who got citizenship under the current law ![]()
All is possible! Thatās what makes this journey so exciting. It is just like trying to navigate the treacherous seas around Cape Horn. Yes, I am afraid some ships will be wrecked, but perhaps some would still make the journey. Whether or not to stay the course or turn around is up to you. ![]()
yes there is hope, but what Iāve been pointing out lately is, since late July, we donāt see newer applications getting approved - the approvals seem to have been put on hold for applications put on hold for Sep 2023 and onwards.. Normally around this we should have been seeing approvals of October and perhaps even November, which is not happeningā¦
Few tried to point summer holidays as the season, but I think it is now becoming evident there is an arbitrary pause on approving applications of newer months.
There are few theories and key dates, local elections are tomorrow, 15th of October is the date when the extension of residencies will come to an end, and it is been said that in the third week of October there will be discussions on the nationality law; the last one might be the main reason why things have paused - as there was a similar pause.
Why is this important for all, it seems as if the 6.1 process is going up to 30 months and for brand new applicants this might be even more than 36 months..
All valid points, and I donāt disagree that by now the system is thrown into a disarray and has stalled. Still, for at least a singular event in the past, the system delivered. Will we be so lucky now is not certain, but at least there is hope - and only hope - that we might be rewarded for our infinite patience.
Since every law firm webinar has now pivoted to selling GV PR instead of citizenship, can anyone who has actually obtained GV PR confirm by posting here with your details
My understanding is that AIMA has not made GV PR appointments available in years, but if anyone has a counter example, please post here.
Yes it would be very helpful for many people.
Iāve also heard that GV PR appointments are very hard to get. But apparently itās not impossible: I signed up for one of the private groups for Mercanās existing / potential investors, and earlier this year, someone was talking about exiting their investment after obtaining GV PR.
It must have happened for some Chinese investors who didnāt want to give up their Chinese passports.
Thing is, even though citizenship application eligibility started at five years from application date as of a couple years ago, GV PR remained five years from first card. So anyone whoās obtained GV PR recently wouldāve needed to have applied before 2020.
Indeed. I think SEF was relatively functional back in 2018 and 2019, after removing the requirement to do biometrics at the SEF office closest to the real estate investment (causing huge backlogs in Lisbon, etc.), and before Covid. If it takes someone only a few months to get their GV back then, 5 years from receiving the GV card means around 2023 or 2024 for these folks.
And the most nasty thing is that now all of them are being positive about PR and saying that PR is actually the āsameā as citizenship and there is ānot much differenceā between PR and citizenship. ![]()
It was also taking 2-3 years to get the first card. Mine took 3 years.
Not much difference other than only for 5 years, and big fees.
My bad. Then it was only people who really couldnāt go for the PT passport.
Even if PR has a validity of 50 years and zero fees, it still does not give freedom of work&live in other Schengen countries. PR and citizenship are not even in the same league to make comparison.
But those who come from countries that do not accept dual citizenship just want to get PR. Genius.
Please do not mix up the issue here. Everyone wants to have choices after 5 years. Some people want PR, others want citizenship. With new law, there is only one choice for ALL after 5 years i.e. PR whether people like it or not. And again, PR and citizenship are not even in the same league to make comparison.
I do agree with you, I started this program just for the citizenship, even though I come from a country that does not accept dual citizenship.
I could apply for myself this year thanks to the change of counting method from residency card to application. But could not do it for my minor. And she will lose her chance to apply for another six years once the new amendments are in effect next month.
So my friend having applied before covid does not change things very much.
