Would anyone has been advised by your lawyers how children under 18 years can apply for citizenship?
The link to join a whatsapp group dedicated to ACP Porto Nationality group is WhatsApp Group Invite
Assuming they are still under 18 years at the point the parents get their citizenship they should apply on the back of their parentsâ citizenship. To do this they need to demonstrate links to Portugal. The most solid link to PT as advised by many lawyers is the 5 yearsâ residency. In addition it may be wise to demonstrate other links too.
That is a problem with this forum. Any post or thread more than 4 days old might as well not exist at all for purposes of people trying to acquire new knowledge.
Over on Facebook, the American & FriendsPT group maintains an extensive âfilesâ section which contains valuable information on many topics. These documents in the âfilesâ section are regularly updated. Of course, something like that takes work to maintain. It would be nice if we had something like that here for specific GV issues. Most members of the A&FPT FB group are D7 applicants.
We do have something like that here. Several people started Wiki pages on various topics but people find it easier to post a new question and start a new thread without doing any research, and as long as people entertain and respond to it, it will continue. It would be really nice if people would use the Wiki feature more because it saves a lot of time in the end. It just takes one person to get it started and others to update it with new knowledge.
@tkrunning, I know this forum software already alerts people when they try post a link that theyâve already posted in the same thread. Does it also have functionality to alert people when the question theyâre composing might have existing answers?
I mean how many separate threads about PT bank accounts do we need? ![]()
Also should Categories like https://community.nomadgate.com/c/residency-citizenship-migration/portugal-golden-visa/22 have the Wikis that @portugalwanderer mentions above pinned at the top?

@kewalramanibharat Which stage are you currently tracking at? Have you progressed to âUnder Analysisâ yet?
Am at awaiting decision so all done except getting to our turn.
We are at pra decisĂŁo
We applied in March 2024 based on 1st residence card.
From what I read ,our turn will be in March 2026.
Been waiting for 3 years and application still says only submitted so youâre looking at 4-5 years until you get your golden visa and 10 years until you are eligible to apply for citizenship and another 3 years until you are a national. So youâre looking at a time frame of 16-18 years, if passport is your goal. Those are the current timelines.
If the current trend continues like this, it will become more and more difficult to hear success stories. Despite all the âreformsâ getting introduced, things are getting only slower. 4 years has become the norm for the initial GV application to get fully approved and the citizenship application process time seems to be approaching towards 3 years. Furthermore, whenever there is a discussion on nationality law, the process seems to be paused even for the ones who have submitted their applications - which is a bit arbitrary approach given that the already submitted entries should not be impacted by the changes in the law. So if the residency requirement is increased to 10 years, in reality this would mean 17 years of wait time, which would be one of the highest in the world.
One has to note down, that across EU and modern world, the usual wait time for citizenship applications are usually one year or slightly less. If I am not mistaken, the local legislation states that a decision needs to be made in 90 days; I have yet to hear anyone whose time come close to this. Yet despite all this, the situation only seems to be deteriorating.
I am waiting on my citizenship application that was filed in May 2024, and have 2 daughters ages 16 & 18 who have both had GV residency since April 2019. We live in the U.S. and they are both in high school so an intensive on-line A2 Portuguese class like my wife and I took was not a viable option. The language requirement for them was stressing me out because I didnât know how I could make it work. After some searching I found a private course offering, and it is working great after 2 months. My daughters have private class on-line on their schedule which is currently 4-6pm CST on Thursdays and 10-12 noon on Saturdays. The professor is a highly-skilled instructor who they thoroughly enjoy and is flexible if they need to adjust classes for conflicts. The course is offered by CipleMaster.com and is expensive but under the circumstances was our only real option and worth every penny. I would not expect 150 private customized hours to cost any less. My daughters will get their A2 certification in April, which is just before I hope to get my citizenship 2 years after application in May or June. Highly recommended for any US based citizenship applicants with teenagers.
Wow - Looks like someone got pre-approval in 85 days (according to the spreadsheet) having filed a lawsuit. Our lawyer today came out very strongly against going forward with a lawsuit. We applied the day of the massive power outage, April 28, with a minute to spare.
Is it the right topic for your message?.. Pre-approval is probably about GV, not citizenshipâŚ
My lawyer told me last time we met that he now works only via the court way. Submission, pre-approval done. No biometrics scheduled in time? Lawsuit. No decision made? Lawsuit. No card issued? Lawsuit. Itâs not expensive for clients, but works much faster than the normal way.
Why was he so strongly against it? Many say that if you donât live in Portugal, oneâs request for urgent decision will not be approved.
I just met with another Golden Visa applicant who has successfully received her passport. She applied in January 2018, received her first card in May of 2018, and then applied for the citizenship in June of 2023. It took her 2 years and 3 months to finally obtain her passport.
And so, yes, there is hope for successful GV saga!..
